Mario Kart fans will argue to death over which game is the best in the series (a pointless endeavour considering the correct answer is 64) but there's certainly some agreement on which was the most disappointing: That old forgotten GameCube flop Double Dash.

With its bizarre z-button racer switching, its generally mangled physics, and the merciless removal of Blue Shell countermeasures, Double Dash hardly represented a vintage Mario Kart experience.

However, there were a few tracks that were pretty excellent, especially Baby Park, as well as this tough little monster:

Yoshi's Circuit is a Double Dash race course shaped as the little dinosaur fella, featuring a neat waterfall shortcut mid-way and a perilously tight corner at the end of his tail.

Now Nintendo has revealed this course has been remastered for Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, and will feature in the first of two DLC packs. Take a look at the course in the video above.

Mario Kart 8's downloadbale content will come in the form of two separate packs. New characters, tracks, and karts will be added to the game, featuring content from many of Nintendo's other franchises, including The Legend of Zelda, F-Zero, and Animal Crossing.

Each DLC pack will cost $8 (£7), while a bundle of both can be bought for $12 (£11).

The first of these packs is expected to ship in November, and each one features:

  • 3 new characters
  • 4 new vehicles
  • 8 additional courses (half new, half old)

This course was a very good choice. I'm still disappointing with the character selection. Where is Boo, Bowser, Jr., Diddy Kong, etc? In addition, I would like to see Kamek's small bike again, it was awesome and it has a better design than other bikes. Lastly, in my opinion Mario Kart DD was the best, you have the feeling of having more speed than in other MK games. People was angry with the "snaking technique" which makes you feel faster, but it was part of the game and everyone could do, so people thinks it was the worst? why?! plenty of items and characters, snaking technique, etc., so many things to focus at the same time, now you just focus on racing and those annoying coins. I think you guys, didn't play this game so much...

There were so many other options that in my opinion would be way better. As you said, there's Boo, Bowser Jr., Kamek, and if you go to other franchises there's Diddy Kong, Zelda, Samus, Captain Falcon, Fox and so on...

Not sure if serious or just baiting, but MK 64 is far from being the best Mario Kart. Maybe it's time to take off the nostalgia goggles? Even at the time, Diddy Kong Racing was a better game, and MK Wii is a straight upgrade from MK 64.

Also, Double Dash wasn't awkward, the whole point was that it was a co-op game. It's the highest rated Mario Kart on Metacritic after MK 8, so it certainly wasn't a disappointment.

You haven't played Double Dash until you have played it 16 player LAN. But even without that feature that most people haven't tried it was still a solid entry in the series and my favorite prior to Mario Kart 8.

Not entirely a forgotten track since they had already used it as a retro track in MK DS so this will be the third game to feature this track. Definitely worth bringing back though!

@s9picymchaggis Wii was disappointing after Double Dash, but the worst to me is Mario Kart Super Circuit. A SNES remix that did nothing new on a platform that was harder to play multiplayer on, released after Mario Kart 64 so going back to flat tracks was flat out boring.

I thought it was going to be a "lost" track, like one that wasn't used in Double Dash for some reason. Instead, it's "lost" because it's from Double Dash.

The way you describe the pack/bundle is misleading...


"...while the bundle is $12 (£11) and features:

That's the content of a single pack, double that for the bundle + 8 colours for Yoshi and Shy Guy available now if you pay for the bundle ahead of time.

@Alurit @marcsmashing I'm not native english, but I do speak and write very well in english, and other languages too. There was an "each" at the beginning of the sentence, but then there was a comma followed by what I've written in the first comment so some could misinterpret the sentence as if that was the content of the bundle.


Now is much better. Sorry if it seems nitpicking.
