Watch Pikachu Channel Sherlock Holmes in Detective Pikachu Trailer

New game coming to Japanese eShop on February 3.

Nintendo has finally shown off more of the Detective Pikachu game first reported on in 2013. The game, which is officially called Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Combination, will launch for 3DS in Japan on February 3.

A trailer, which you can watch above, shows Pikachu attempting to solve some sort of mystery in a Sherlock Holmes hat. He's joined by another human character, who seems to be Pikachu's partner.

Unlike other Pikachu--and most other Pokemon--Detective Pikachu looks to be capable of speaking. Based on the trailer it looks like Pikachu has an impressive set of facial expressions, perhaps indicating that previous rumours that he would react to the player's facial expressions are true.

Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Combination will be available initially for 1200 Yen. The price will then rise to 1500 Yen three weeks later. Nintendo has not yet announced the game for territories outside of Japan.

I remember when this first leaked a while ago, I might check it out if it's released in North America just because of how weird of a concept it is.

720p for that video? WHYYYY

Thought Japan of all places would be pushing 4k trailers and not stuck to something 15 years old.

@DAOWAce: Japan is stuck in the last century. Many of their games especially indie don't even support 1080 or 60 fps on PC.
