Watch the Action-Packed First Trailer for Star Trek Beyond

With director JJ Abrams moving onto Star Wars, the job of directing the latest Star Trek movie has been handed to Fast and Furious veteran Justin Lin. The action-packed first trailer for Star Trek Beyond has now been released--check it out below:

Star Trek Beyond is set for release on July 22, 2016. It stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Idris Elba, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, and John Cho, and is the third film in the series since it was rebooted in 2009.

Pegg is also the film's co-writer, and earlier this year he spoke to Collider about the challenges of writing a new Star Trek adventure. "Obviously, I always treat things with respect, but I have to abide by certain rules and do right by the original series, and not be too post-modern with it and not be too aware of itself," he said. "I have to try to take on the spirit of the show, rather than fill it with stuff that people will just go, ‘Oh, yeah, that's from episode something or other.' It's more than that."

Last month, it was also revealed that a new Star Trek TV show is in development, to be screened in 2017.
