Right on schedule, Polish developer CD Projekt Red today released the intro cinematic for next year's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It's brutal (there's horse decapitation and a bird that mangles someone's face) and quite impressive. Check out the full video above.

Here is how CD Projekt Red sets up the video, which it calls "The Trail":

"Foreshadowing the story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, 'The Trail' opening cinematic is an epic sneak peek into the adventure that awaits gamers in Wild Hunt. See witchers Geralt of Rivia and his mentor Vesemir pursue Geralt's long lost love, the immensely powerful, raven-black-haired sorceress-- Yennefer of Vengerberg."

I can see that soundtrack will be really great in this game. Game should be epic too. Too bad there's no way my PC could handle it. Though I'm thinking about buying console someday, so there's still hope for me.

Can't wait to see the PC specs for this. Hopefully they optimize it well, but considering the gfx it would make sense that to play it maxed you'll need some power.

I cannot believe GTA SA is nearly ten years old or that around 87' while playing Phantasy star 2 or 3 I realized going back to simple megaman would be very hard. I and I think most gaming consumers need more for our purchase. The folks at CD PR have almost fanatic love of storytelling, one in which I cannot wait to play, and the more "hard-hitting, faux drama" it contains will be just icing on the top of game play cake.

It's a shame? No. Actually it is a very good thing this game is being released only for PC and CURRENT-gen consoles. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are now LAST-gen. It is time for gamers to get with the program and get current. Making these games for current and old gen really holds back the Current-Gen graphically.

But our little hobby -gaming, is like any other industry if it hopes to grow and expand it will need to keep pushing boundaries. Like every generation of console/pc that transitions from one to the other, there is this line drawn into the sand. One side last gen --- other next gen. : you can have last gen with some up scaling and given the HD treatment (that has been done since SNES) or you can have next gen with concurrent last gen development at the same time (this is prohibitively expensive - and is actually making two different games).

It is not all bad, with next gen systems you do not just get better graphics but richer, smarter A.I. and better physics, controls, options, and additions that evolve this form of entertainment we love. I truly feel bad for those who will not have access to this game for what ever reason- as the last Witchers have been excellent and created with incredible passion from this Polish studio. I am not suggesting this is a line in the sand people must take (as there are still plenty of great games for older systems)- I like to think of it as transitioning from one time line to the next.
