A much needed wakeup call

Millenium has no doubt improved over its dismal performance in the spring split, the team now possesses a winning record and a highly motivated team who, depending on the day, look like a team that could compete to represent Europe at the World Championships. This super week, however, showed that they need to refine their playstyle if they want to head to Asia this year.

A time to reflect

Millenium’s win over Gambit was the only saving grace this super week. A 0-4 week would have been devastating for a team that started out with so much promise in the beginning of the split. The team does fairly well early game, with their ability to generate CS leads due to their high mechanical skill level and Kottenx’s smart pressure in the jungle.

The ability to generate strong gold leads out of laning phase has been one of Milennium’s core strengths with their game versus Roccat being a strong example. From the onset of the game to the 14 and a half minute mark, Millenium’s strengths shone, and they generated a 3K gold lead through a strong laning phase and smart objective control by the team.

This game eventually descended into a comedy of errors with neither side being competent in strategically play, which currently is Millenium’s biggest weakness. There was no decisiveness or no proper vision control in the game and eventually Millenium’s attempt to prioritize picks over objectives failed to convert sufficiently into map pressure. Their extreme focus on Baron allowed Roccat’s tactical play eventually skirt around the map and apply pressure. This was not a good game by either side, but it did demonstrate a fundamental weakness in Millennium’s tactical gameplay.

The Fnatic game wasn’t better either, Millenium obtained a total of one turret in the entire game and thus the entirety of game they were playing from a weaker position in terms of vision. The lack of vision is one of the fundamental issues that is affecting Millenium at the present.

Millenium has so far only managed to capture one turret by 20 minutes to Fnatic's 3. The vision control of Fnatic also far supasses Millenium's.

Millenium certainly have the potential to be a top tier team and I hope they reach they can fix their issues soon, they need to focus on playing tactically and controlling vision and less on creating picks which can backfire heavily, such as the games against Roccat and Supa Hot Crew. Week 8 will see if they’ve learnt from their performance at super week.

We spoke with Millenium’s Jree about their super week performance:

How do you rate your performance last week? What do you think went right for you last week? What are some of the good desicions that you made. What do you think went wrong for you? What were some of the poor desicions you made?

We weren’t happy with 1-3, but when we played our style we so it really good, just need to work on being more flexible which we tried to work on for this week

What did you learn from this week and how do you plan to use what you learned for this week?

We learned that we need to be more aggressive and play as a team and do decision together so everyone is at the same page

What are the expectations for the upcoming week? What are are the core goals you would like to achieve this week?

For this week we hope to go 2-0, but most important to play better and improve as a team

Leaders and Puppies

Millenium faces the two very contrasting teams this week. They’ll be facing against Alliance today who will be seeking to shrug off their underwhelming super week performance and fire back on all cylinders. I don’t really see Millenium winning this one as Alliance’s mechanical and tactical strength outclass that of the men in purple for the time being.

They should, on the other hand, convincingly defeat the Copenhagen Wolves who have been struggling in the summer circuit. Although the Wolves did manage to snap up a win against Alliance last week, Milennium are the favourites heading into this match.
