Welcome to GameSpot Entertainment

Our new Entertainment section will deliver more on the movies, TV shows, comics, and toys that video game fans love.

You may have noticed that we’ve been experimenting with some non-game types of content on the site in recent months in the form of entertainment coverage. We’re all fans of this stuff, and we know many of you are too. The feedback on our entertainment stories has been great, and the time has come for us to finally expand what we're doing and give it a sense of place within the wider GameSpot site.

Today, we're launching GameSpot Entertainment, a new section of the site designed to hold all of our content around movies, TV, comics, and collectibles. Our objective here is to build a range of stories and videos that covers areas outside of gaming that are of interest to us, and we hope, to you too. Star Wars, Marvel, DC, The Walking Dead--these are just some of the things you can expect to see more of in the new section of the site.

As some of you may know, we also have a site called Comic Vine that GameSpot owner CBS Interactive acquired along with Giant Bomb back in 2012. The team over at Comic Vine have done an amazing job expanding their core coverage of the comics world to also include TV, movies, toys, and collectibles. I am very excited to say that effective immediately, the Comic Vine team (led by Tony Guerrero) will be officially joining the GameSpot team. Tony and the Comic Vine crew will spearhead the creation of news, features, and videos for GameSpot Entertainment, alongside their continuing responsibilities to Comic Vine and the community.

As GameSpot approaches our 20th anniversary in 2016, we'll continue to be primarily focused on delivering the best video game coverage around. But now you'll also get some of the other stuff we know video game fans love.

As always, we’re keen to hear your feedback. Hit us up in the comments below and let us know what you’d like to see in this new section of the site.

I can't see why this is necessary given how many games are still overlooked by GS. I can understand that something needs to be done to increase traffic, but there are plenty of ways to do that while still focusing on games.

I hope I'm complaining too early and the income generated from this move goes into increasing/improving games coverage. In any case, time will tell.

@Kunakai: I can understand how it seems like that. But this isn't actually the case. It's not as though the GameSpot staff is now dedicating time that would be spent on video games to entertainment content. Instead, we brought on Comic Vine into the fold of GameSpot. Comic Vine has their own team of editors that will be creating content alongside GameSpot. As far as covering more of what you want to see, there are also some discussions going on regarding the best way to handle that sort of thing. Did you know that we have a news alias that we welcome you to email if you see something you want us to cover? That's not to say it will 100% get into the queue for the writers, but it couldn't hurt.

@digitaldame: Thanks for responding Synthia.

I understand, but it feels like this move came at the expense of many of my favorite staffers who have vanished from the site over the last couple of years. It may just be a matter of my perception, but it feels like the things I love about the site are slowly but surely being drained away. (That's not to say there isn't still great content, just less of it)

In any case, all we can do from here on out is hope for the best.

Who would be the best person to send article/feature requests to?

@Kunakai: Trust me, I understand how you feel, I started here in 06, became a staff member in 2011, and boy howdy, how things have changed. Feel free to reach out to me about some of the things that you loved but you no longer see on the site. I can't make promises, but I can act as a conduit. :) If you have a news tip or info about a game, you can always email community@gamespot.com.

@Kunakai: This is such a great point. There are so many more games coming out each week these days that they can review, preview or do news story's on but nope. Let's just move on to Entertainment Spot.

I been here for so long that this just feels a bit wrong but I know they need the ad hits to pay the bills. Just wish they can do it with more gaming content.

For people who have a problem with this... Get over it. You don't own this site in anyway, you don't produce the videos or attend the conferences that these guys go to in order to bring us content on some of our most anticipated games. If they want to expand into other forms of entertainment then I think 1) It should only affect you if you're somehow FORCED into reading this new content- which you're not; and 2) Let's face it, it's true that most gamers do love the kind of stuff they're talking about in this article, i.e. Star Wars, Marvel, DC etc..

Thank you GameSpot for making a very sensible decision. Keep it up! :)

@GriffinLord602: I don't want to start an argument here but everything they do on this site is meant for the people who come here regularly. If they want to change something we should let them know what we think and it would be wise for them to hear us and act accordingly.

@Arkhalipso: What GS does is for revenue not the satisfaction of any particular people. How will the existing regular visitors increase GS income in the way that attracting new visitors by adding diverse content will?

GS is a business it isn't our friend.

@Arkhalipso: customers who would be willing to leave a business because more services are being added are the least reliable and so business - wise the most expendable. They are seen as an acceptable loss.

Any company that prioritises existing customers over broadening their consumer base will fail because customers naturally move on or die.

@jimdigby: Umm, this can't be compared to a regular business. People wouldn't complain if the neighborhood store added more products to sell. Besides, new people join gamespot everyday because of videogames. Thinking that there's a limited number of people who would join the site is pretty weird.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

@Arkhalipso: those new people would come anyway, the video games articles aren't going anywhere but people who like other entertainment will also come, that means more people than just gamers.

People are complaining that GS is adding more products and, like the store, it makes no sense.

Is that simple enough for you?

@jimdigby: You're simplifying things, people may leave to a news site with gaming content only, that's what some people have been saying. A lot of the people you see here came from IGN because they didn't like mix they have there, so that proves my point.

@Arkhalipso: Why is it my or your decision to dictate what CBS does with its property? The way I've read the article is that GameSpot's 'wider entertainment' section will be run by a separate team that was already doing that job anyway. If anything it might bring more potential gamers to the site while still offering a place for both movie/comic lovers and gamers.

Considering it has been specifically pointed out that another team will be producing the additional content I don't know why people are acting as if there won't be as much gaming content.

@GriffinLord602: Just because you like this doesn't mean we all should. Like I said in another comment, I'm ok with it as long as they let us filter the content. I'd like to enter the site and see gaming news only because there are plenty of other sites that cover movies, TV shows, etc. way better, and a lot of people agree with me.

@Arkhalipso: Sure, if that's your preference. But gamers, I think, are notorious for sticking to what they know (fanboyism is a prime example), and if the gaming content isn't going to change then I basically see zero difference. If someone is going to stop visiting this site because of content on other forms of entertainment then I think that's silly. It's the sort of feedback that is basically asking GameSpot to remain the same forever; that's just not realistic.

@GriffinLord602: Chill out dude, nobody dictates anything, that's called user feedback. Anyway, there's shitload of entertainment sites already, I personally prefer that "game"spot to concentrate on games, than bloat to some IGN wannabe.

@se007: I'm chilled. I think the fact that these changes don't bother me half as much as anyone else is an indication that I'm chilled.

And as much as you acknowledge that we as users don't dictate anything it's still the case that lots of people resistant to change try to do so.

If we can still access all the gaming content without an issue I don't see why people have such an issue.

I don't think having the option for reading additional news/opinions is bad at all; especially when they are promising a way to keep the various sections he mentioned separate. I've visited gamespot for all my gaming news since I found it shortly after I got internet 15-20 years ago, and it has really helped me follow my hobby and make the entertainment choices I want. I confess to not ever watching videos, but most often, they include plain old text for people like me. It's nice already to be able to filter by platform at the top. I expect it would be similarly easy for tv, movie, toys, etc. news and features. I've never had to pay anything for this great news and opinion platform, and couldn't be happier with it so far.

It's hilarious that people are upset by the existence of entertainment news here. Your game news is still here and hasn't changed. Having more doesn't take anything away. Just choose what you want to read. lol

My only concern. KEEP SPOILERS OUT OF YOUR HEADLINES AND IMAGES!!!

@straightcur: Website is called GAMEspot... sees no problem with completely unrelated news articles being posted. It's not hilarious, it's the only sensible position existing patrons should take.

The good news here is the content is kept on a separate tab.

Whoa, the day after io9 died this site starts an entertainment section. I have used io9 for like 5 or 6 years daily and don't think I've missed an article in all that time, but it dying and getting merged with Gizmodo had me feeling aimless. Hope you cover more than just the popular stuff, and that the writers are informed and respectable and aren't copy & paste clickbait tabloid bloggers that don't love what they do. I've seen a lot of that on other sites which is why I don't use those sites anymore.

"The feedback on our entertainment stories has been great" you must have a very strange definition of "great" because from what I've seen every time an entertainment story is posted all I see is a dozen different variations of "this isn't video games" in the comments.

@catsimboy: - I assure you, the Entertainment content you see on site will be thoughtful, engaging, informative, and interesting. And most importantly, this is why we are giving entertainment a separate tab. Thus a separate section. We know not EVERYONE wants to seek out this content, and we still want to make it easy for you to get all the gaming-related content /news you came for. I believe the things we create here come from the passionate & inspired people who work at GameSpot. Yes we love many things. And we will be listening to your feedback. Because we care.

Woo! Sounds Awesome. Anything to drive more content, get more viewers and make gamespot the greatest site on the internet is alright with me :)

I do like the idea of a separate entity within gamespot so if I choose to find out about some "geek culture" stuff I can find it here. I'd still appreciate a separate link or section for these types of articles, as I'm sure most people will say in a much more rude way, but sounds cool.

Now we can get all the wrestling coverage we want (If you're Randolph or Rob :P)

P.S. There should also be links for kanyespot.com, khaledspot.com and whatever other goofy shiz Tamoor comes up with. hahaha

@Goobshoeriot: Thank you for your enthusiasm. Although I disagree. They are using their brand name, which I guess makes sense, to cover entertainment, but they should've launched a different website then? I don't really care as long as I don't see non gaming related stuff outside of the section and that the quality of the articles doesn't go down.
