Where's Our Review of The Crew?

We're testing the game under real world conditions, and will bring you our full review soon.

Ubisoft's open world racer The Crew hits stores in North America today, but unfortunately, you won't be seeing our review for another few days.

GameSpot only received its copies of The Crew yesterday, which of course is not enough time to adequately review the game. With The Crew having extensive online functionality--publisher Ubisoft bills the game as an "action-driving MMO"--we're also keen to run the game in live conditions, testing it in the same environment as consumers will experience it in.

As is our usual practice with MMOs or other games with significant online sections, we'll be testing the game over live servers during the next few days, and will bring you our full review of The Crew as soon as possible.

Ubisoft should be raking it in with Assassins Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 and The Crew, or is that why there is no review yet because they cant afford to have another mixed review floating about?

I saw Jim Sterling's Let's Play of it and although the game's visuals look good, the "Story" looks like generic, boring nonsense.

If you love Need for Speed, then you will likely love this.

Ubisoft have filled the game with Microtransactions too, but I guess you expect that these days from them.

I WON'T be supporting them with this, in fact I am seriously thinking that Ubisoft are actually get worse than Electronic Arts nowadays.

Who would've predicted such things, because that is some accomplishment to out do EA in terms of Anti-Consumerism bull-sh*te?

Ubisoft... Buck up your ideas eh!?

I know, instead of feeling sorry, Gamespot can you guys blame Ubisoft for not letting you review the game pre-launch and please stop reviewing Ubitrash.

Where's the review? In your computers and completely ready, you bunch of liars! You're just giving Ubisoft a week to sell as many copies as they can before the review becomes a purchase filter (just like IGN has done). A horrible practice that has become very common recently.

<< LINK REMOVED >> If you don't know if a game is good or not and don't have a review when it's released, simply *don't buy it*. It's not really rocket science.

People who buy a game in the release day, without knowing if it's good or not *deserves* any bad game they got. It's simple as that.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's an online-only game. How is anyone gonna be able to review it before the server goes online? Plus, what's so hard to just wait for one week until the reviews are out before buying it?

You have a huge tin-foil hat. :\

Also, if GameSpot put out the review early, it would have been attacked for not giving game-makers courtesy anyway.

Saying that game reviewers are being bribed or making secret deals, that's very plain old fashioned grounded not incredibly hard to believe conspiracy stuff :).

Sure, it's not incredulous, but so far, all the tin-foil hatters could do is point to past cases. They couldn't even provide proof for their most recent allegations.

They have no argument which is more sophisticated than "it happened, so it can happen again".

over 680 people on Steam think the game is good and it has a Very Positive rating and these are people with actual time in the game so it's probably pretty good. Most of the people on here commenting haven't played it and are just looking at trailers or looking at the fact it's Ubisoft (it's actually developed by a different studio).

IMO it's foolish to judge a game based on day-1 impressions from random strangers. If a publisher doesn't have the confidence to let actual critics play a week before release, obviously something is wrong.

Are we talking about the same people who gave Receiver 1500 out of 2000 positive reviews?

I, for one, would take Steam user reviews with a metaphorical fistful of salt. They tend to be written on nothing more than whims.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Burnout Paradise bored me to tears. Thankfully The Crew is nothing like it. First of all, it works suprisingly well with steering wheel, despite having arcade-like handling. Second, it has fully functional cockpit view - a must for greater immersion and basically the only way I can and would play driving/racing games. The hood view is admissable, but not in Burnout with it's exaggerated drifting model.

After about 8 hours of playing I feel like The Crew is MMOCARPG done right. Anyway pretty far from "fail". Although it probably will not be appreciated by fans of latest NFS games.

Ubisoft didn't want you to review game until after the release. More reason to stop the preordering.

<< LINK REMOVED >> True. But "preorder" is a completely absurd concept anyway. How can someone find it rational to buy a product that you cannot guarantee its quality? I never preordered a game in my life. In fact, I usually wait a few months to let the hype go down, and then, I look if there is sufficient information on the internet to see whether the game deserves or not the purchase.

Hell, it's not like I don't have other games to be played. I have played only 30-40% of the gamesin my STEAM account, so, I have plenty to play before deciding whether to buy any new game.

Is this the first racing game Ubisoft has ever done...? It seems WAY too ambitious if so, and it would explain why I'm hearing so many say the driving feels bad... it sucks in all the other Ubisoft games (Watch Dogs in particular...) so they probably should have nailed that aspect before making such a large scale dedicated racing game...

<< LINK REMOVED >> The publisher is Ubisoft (the company who distributes, pays for production/marketing) but the development team is Ivory Tower and has veterans of other open world racing games such as Test Drive Unlimited 1 & 2. However, I didn't love the handling in those games either (although I did love the environments).

<< LINK REMOVED >> That is why Forza Horizon felt so good because Turn 10 know how to do the driving and do it well and they simply added that formula to an open map.

Doing it the other way around is bound to turn bad.

<< LINK REMOVED >> At least they're using the same servers as everyone else unlike early reviews done under special circumstances at the offices of the publisher... I'd prefer a slightly delayed review if it's more accurate to the release day experience. Waiting 2 weeks for bugs to be ironed out is equally annoying as an early review though.
