Who Will Play James Bond Next? The Search Begins Next Year As Daniel Craig Gives Advice

Craig's piece of advice for the next James Bond? "Don't be sh**."

Daniel Craig returns to play James Bond for a fifth and final time in No Time To Die, but who will play the British superspy next? We still don't know, but series producer Barbara Broccoli has said the search for the next James Bond will begin in 2022.

Speaking on the BBC Radio's Today show, Broccoli said she doesn't want the conversation about the next James Bond to overshadow Craig's final appearance as Bond.

"We want Daniel to have his time of celebration," she said (via Deadline). "Next year we'll start thinking about the future."

Michael G. Wilson, another producer at Eon, said in the interview that Craig leaves the Bond role with some "big shoes to fill." Indeed, Craig played Bond not only five times but he helped elevate the series to new heights, with Skyfall being the first in the series to crack $1 billion at the box office.

Broccoli said Craig helped give Bond more of a humanity in his performances. "He enabled us to explore the emotional life of Bond, to go deeply into the personal, complexity of the character," she said.

While we don't know who specifically will play Bond next, it likely will not be a woman. Broccoli said she would like to create more female characters in the 007 universe, but James Bond will always be a man for as long as she controls the series.

Pierce Brosnan, who portrayed the legendary super-spy James Bond in four 007 movies, said it was time for a woman to play Bond.

In a separate interview with the BBC, which you can watch above, Craig offered up a succinct piece of advice for whoever plays James Bond next: "Don't be sh**."

No Time To Die arrives in UK cinemas on September 30 before coming to the US on October 8--tickets are on sale now. True Detective's Cary Joji Fukunaga directed No Time To Die, which features Oscar winner Rami Malek as the villain. Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Naomie Harris, and Rory Kinnear all return from earlier entries, while Lynch (Captain Marvel) and Ana de Armas (Knives Out) join the cast.

Outside of the film series, the developers of the Hitman video game franchise are making a James Bond game that will tell an original origin story for the British superspy.

The series went from great story, amazing big and brutal fights (space, underwater, etc) with real stunts, truly evil creepy feeling villains to overall little performance full of clichés supported by the overly boring CGI…. Now included in the package is racial and gender concerns and political correct b.s (as if it was ever incorrect).

I wish the franchise all the best, nothing good can cone out of this path.

None. In an era that is seemingly attacking masculinity as a whole, it just doesn't belong anymore.

@sealionact: Ok, sounds like they walked back on that a while ago (or just marketed it very poorly). Had mostly stopped paying attention to this franchise with all the dumb news I kept seeing...

@m4a5: They didn’t walk back on it. The studio called her the new 00 agent in the film and the click bait press did the rest.

They never considered using a woman, nor will they.

@sealionact: Well, I wouldn't say never (considering this cultural climate). The fact that it needed to be clarified by the director says enough.

@m4a5: They can’t cast a woman as James Bond. He’s a man.

A spin-off series, maybe…but what would be the point?

If they make it a female, then i will explode :) I would be all in for Idris! But not someone young. James Bond should be played by a mature dude..

Neither here nor there, but I can guarantee you it won't be a white male. I wouldn't even be surprised if it's a female to be honest. Given today's climate.

@mooglestar: It’s not gonna be a woman. Even the female producer, who controls pretty much all aspects of Bond movies, has said she doesn’t want Bond to be a woman.

@trer24: So what? Because you see white men in movies all the time, there shouldn’t be white men in movies? Here’s a crazy idea; maybe people should create the characters they want to see, instead of always trying to take them and change them.

Do you know why so many characters are white men? It’s because white men created them. People create what they know. They create what they’re most connected to. Every race and sex creates the things that resemble them.

Women usually create female characters. Black people usually create black characters. Asian people create Asian characters, etc… Most people aren’t going to create things that don’t resemble them in any way.

If I were going to create a character, it would be a white guy, because that’s what I know. It wouldn’t be because I don’t want to see characters of other races or another sex. I just have no business creating characters like that, because I wouldn’t be able to do them justice.

People are just lazy and don’t want to do the work it takes to create a new character and make them popular.

@stickemup: If it was only as simple as you described. Nothing gets made in Hollywood without financial backing. Who has always controlled the money? That part of Hollywood is dominated by white men. So it really has very little to do with people being too "lazy". It's that decision making is done by one demographic and therefore they are able to influence a large portion of the culture in our society and shape it in their image.

Barbara, look at this face. Call me. I know you want to.

As for you Pierce, no. Just no. Why not let the next Black Widow be a man? But if Disney is thinking about it, call me. I will wear those tights and go full drag for half of what you paid her.

The title of the article is "Who will play James Bond next?" Then it proceeds to list ZERO, ZILCH, NADA details (not even speculation) about potential candidates. They didn't even list some obvious ones such as Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston.

@makchady: I would think Henry Cavil would be the clear choice.

Tall, Good looking, did a very good job in Men from Uncle. But then again. this is a woke world. Who knows.
