Why Batman v Superman's Batman Will Be Different
"This situation generates an altogether new reality."
There is no superhero who has been played by as many high-profile actors as Batman. From Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer to George Clooney and Christian Bale, each has put their own spin on the Dark Knight. Ben Affleck will be next to wear the cape in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and now the actor has provided some clues as to what to expect from his portrayal.
In an interview with French magazine Studio Ciné Live, Affleck explained that the setting of the new movie is very different to that of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight films. "Christopher Nolan used his Batman to tell a finite story. My version is different, but remains faithful to the Batman mythology and all the themes associated with it," he said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "One of the reasons for the differences is that Nolan's Batman isn't part of a universe where other superheroes exist as well. Here--because we're working towards the Justice League--here's Superman, and it's a world populated with super beings. This situation generates an altogether new reality."
Affleck also hinted that his Bruce Wayne was a more complex figure than previous versions, who is controlled by different elements of his personality. "[The film] plays a bit more with the billionaire playboy side of the character," he explained. "He lives that life at full tilt. He courts many women, owns many cars, and parties a lot. He does that as a way to fill the void in his soul.
"Moreover, past incarnations dealt with a straightforward search for justice. This time, Batman's reasoning is clouded by frustration, bitterness and anger."
A new German TV spot for the movie has also been released. Most of the footage has already been seen in the trailer that was released earlier this month, but it does include some new action shots. Check it out below:
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will open on March 25, 2016. It is directed by Zack Snyder and also stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, and Laurence Fishburne.
