Why CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Lacks Multiplayer

Activision explains why it did not include multiplayer in the new release for PS4, and later Xbox One and PC.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is out now on PlayStation 4, but it's only the campaign that's received a visual upgrade. There is no multiplayer in the package.

In a blog post, Activision said it decided against releasing Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer as a standalone pack and instead favored the idea of launching additional "classic map experiences" within Modern Warfare over time.

"Rather than release a separate, multiplayer experience as a standalone pack, Activision and Infinity Ward are looking to bring more classic map experiences to new life within the Modern Warfare universe as it continues to grow and build over time," the publisher said.

With the release of Modern Warfare in 2019, Activision said it started to focus on "bring[ing] players together seamlessly in one unified online multiplayer playground." The game supports cross-play between PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while all DLC packs are free for everyone. This was all done in an effort to keep the playerbase together.

While Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer might not be getting a remaster, some of the game's original maps are in Modern Warfare already, including the fan-favorite Rust.

The release of Modern Warfare 2 Remastered follows Modern Warfare Remastered, which was released in 2016 through premium versions of Infinite Warfare. It was later released as a standalone game, featuring both a remastered campaign and multiplayer.

Modern Warfare 2 Remastered launched first on PS4 thanks to a timed-exclusivity deal between Sony and Activision. The game, which was developed by Activision subsidiary Beenox, launches for Xbox One and PC on April 30. In the meantime, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Season 3 update is live.

they don't want to split players like how infinite warfare and cod4 remastered did, but they should have add spec ops.

this COD is kinda going downhill. the actual new maps are so bad with dumb angles and camping and they are just gonna keep adding old maps?? also the game modes are ridiculous, they just keep renaming a shipment 24/7 mode or small map game modes. its getting so old. they promised gunfight playlists, a new sniper and maps. we got a shotgun and reused modes with 1 new map and rust...

Translation: They'll end up making more $ without including it with the remaster.

Actually is a sound idea, if they bring it to fruition and yes with bots. I will take any remastered game, the more the merrier.

On one end I can't wait to see the new next gen COD's on XBsX & on the other hand worried that it might just be more of the same really. Personally I like BO4 better & COD is a camp fest.

I seriously love MW1 RM thanks to endless replay; it was awesome that all of the maps now have bot support

But I'm not buying the 4 hour MW2 campaign without the same treatment: multiplayer maps with bot support

Get it together Acti....

It's not a matter of if it's a matter of when. They didn't put in that much money to redo the assets only to sell the game for $20, this is Activision we're talking about. The whole "bringing people together into one playground" is just speak for "when MW2019 starts draining players and isn't making us as much money from the storefront we'll release MW2R MP/Spec Ops with a bunch of micro transactions".

If they really wanted to keep the player base together they wouldn't have released such a turd or at least started working on fixing MW2019 as soon as the community complained about the obvious design flaws.
