Will Halo Infinite Include Battle Royale? Nothing Is Certain Yet

Would you like to see Halo Infinite have a battle royale mode?

In a recent interview, 343 Industries boss Bonnie Ross said Halo Infinite's sandbox multiplayer is potentially capable of delivering a battle royale experience as one of its modes. Nothing is confirmed at this stage, and that remains the case, according to Halo franchise manager Frank O'Connor.

He responded to someone on Twitter who said Ross's comments equated to a confirmation that Halo Infinite will have a battle royale mode. That's not the case.

"I don't know how you get from 'Sandbox is capable of' to 'basically confirmed,'" O'Connor said. "The sandbox is also capable of 1:1 Big Team Invisible Low G SWAT Vehicle Fiesta and I can tell you that's not happening because I've pitched it for five games straight now."

So there you have it, again.

It's also worth noting that Halo 5 already has numerous battle royale modes made by fans through Forge and published as Custom Games that you can play right now. Presumably Halo Infinite will bring back Forge mode, and players will be able to make whatever they want, including battle royale, if Microsoft doesn't make it an official game type as franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield have.

343 already poured some cold water on the idea of a battle royale mode in Halo Infinite. In 2017, a Halo developer said, "I'll tell you right now, the only BR we're really interested in is Battle Rifle."

What's particularly interesting now is how Ross specifically mentioned Apex Legends in her comments about battle royale. People would generally agree that Fortnite and Halo are not much alike, but Apex Legends is more of a core shooter like Halo. It makes sense that 343 would constantly evaluate industry trends. It would be surprising if they didn't.

Halo Infinite is in development for Xbox One and PC. No release date has been announced, but more details about the game are coming at E3 2019. It's rumoured that Microsoft will also talk about its next console at E3; Halo Infinite is said to be to be a launch title for the new Xbox.

Personalty I think a battle royal would be awesome in the forge/customs browser. Imagine if you were able to host a custom game with 99 people, hop in and out of custom games, go 5 teams of 20 spartans CTF. We already have the MCC for classic Halo and its awesome. Now we finally have an awesome customs browser in Halo 5.

Forge with its prefabs means people could build/share/mod bases and create a warlords type map with huge fire teams.

I will say BR should be confined to Customs/Forge in order to keep continuity among the community.

What do you think?

Oh yeah, 99 gladiators custom game, I mean come on.

Battle Royale, to me; has always been me watching a bunch of scared little kids cry and scream at each other ever since Kinji Fukasaku made it possible in the year 2000. And I must admit nothing has changed!

Not only did this kill the one of the best story modes in the longest running action game series rendering the latest Call of Duty a half assed attempt. But now, it also seems likely that is will be an addition to the Halo franchise. What the ****, if you want to play a Battle Royale game just play PUBG, there is nothing wrong with it other than the developer didn't have the same triple A money to appease these shit covered scene kids. Who BTW don't even play the game but watch other twats on the internet suck their dicks for them. Oh; I gave up looking at these comments and/or logging in to this website, so blast away you dip shit scene kids and go ruin another franchise (possibly made by disney). Halo is for the OG's!!. ....UP MIDDLE FINGER....

THAT's the ticket!

I would not want a BR in H6. If they did BR, I'd want it to be a standalone title and F2P. BR isn't something you can just throw in as a mode and expect it to take over the world like Fortnite and Apex have, and that should be their goal.

@fullyskully: So very, very wrong when it comes to adding BR to an existing franchise. It needs to ONLY be a single mode off the main menu, and only available within the game-buying audience. Increase player base -- not fragment.

@Pyrosa: I feel like that would actually hurt the possible population. If they made it it's own thing it wouldn't have to be tied to a main games mechanics and it also wouldn't have to follow the main series release schedule, meaning they wouldn't have to make a new BR for each entry. Release it once then just keep supporting it. It would have to be free if it wanted to compete with the likes of Fortnite and Apex too. Obviously that means mtx but it'd be worth it.

Just so long as it has an offline solo campaign (with a decent length, no 5 hour BS) then I'll be happy.

although i do play battle royal games, i do not understand why this sub-genre has become so popular, since it was a part of many online shooters with a different name: "last man standing"... not so many people cared about it back then, but now even tetris somehow needs it...

How is that different from lone wolf slayer? Just because you restrict respawns?

Doesn't halo already have some epically massive multiplayer mode similar to Battle royal game modes? That's arguably more fun.

Wouldn't be a bad option along with the other modes.

I'm just happy I'll be able to play this one, since it'll be on PC and I can play it correctly with a mouse and keyboard. Now port the Master Chief Collection to PC and I'll be set.

Except Apex is more of a team shooter....the only games where Spartans/Elite's could customise their abilities was 4 and Reach.... wouldn't mind see that come back, but I definitely wouldn't call Fortnite or Apex "core shooters" Fortnite relies too heavily on building, weaponry or jumping around like a complete spaz, Apex has a sort of Overwatch theme with each character having its pro's and con's in a team, whereas Halo is more barebones and about skill, granted there's a lot of jumping but that's just Halo, sine CE ?

@sephirothswing: I`ve always wondered what`s up with shooters and jumping. Nobody can jump like that, yet everyone cries foul if you remove it. Even games with a more realistic bend have crazy jumps.
