Mister Sinister first appeared in a 1987 issue of The Uncanny X-Men. He was originally a geneticist called Nathaniel Essex, who was mutated by Apocalypse and given the powers of cloning, creating, and controlling mutant abilities.

Wolverine 3 will also see Patrick Stewart return as Professor X. Last month the star teased that this might also be his final appearance in the series. "I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me," he told ITV News. "But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it's the end, it's over."

Wolverine 3 is directed by James Mangold, who previously helmed 2013's The Wolverine, which went on to make more than $400 million worldwide. It hits theaters on March 3, 2017.
