World of Tanks PS4 Release Date Announced

No PS Plus membership required.

Following its beta period last year, the PlayStation 4 version of free-to-play tank game World of Tanks is almost ready for its full debut. Developer Wargaming announced today that the PS4 edition will officially arrive on January 19.

The PS4 version of World of Tanks utilizes the "full power of the PlayStation 4," Wargaming said, adding players can also look forward to Trophies, Share Play, and Remote Play with PlayStation Vita.

In addition, everyone who logs in before January 31 gets a free T1E6-PS Light Tank with "exclusive camouflage."

World of Tanks on PS4 does not require PlayStation Plus. However, if you do have a subscription, you'll get access to the Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf. J German Light Premium Tank bundle, as well as three days of premium account time. The offer will be available when the game launches on January 19.

World of Tanks has been around on PCs for years, and was ported to Xbox 360 in 2014 and Xbox One in 2015. The PS4 version marks the game's first appearance on a PlayStation platform.

@dancegdance: if they released that then I guess I'm mistaken. But I'd be very surprised, as they've had several betas between PC and bringing it to various consoles, and they've always wiped before final release.

@k9kal85: The IS-2 is the leg of the tree that goes from IS to IS-3. In the PS4 version, it is all bundled into one upgrade in the IS that turns the IS into the IS-2, that then leads to the IS-3. It is beyond me why they simplified the upgrades and crew in the PS4 version, but it works none the less.

@dancegdance: The IS and IS-3 are Russian tanks. They had the trees that way for beta. Your next tank after the IS-2 is the 110 in the Chinese tech line when servers go live.

@k9kal85: lol. No, I think you are mistaken by what I am saying. My tank is an IS, which is a Russian tank. When upgraded to the first package, it becomes an IS-2 (it still shows it as an IS however), it is really just the second part of the IS that turns into the IS-3. Check the link below if you wish.

Maybe I'm wrong or something, but it's been out on the playstation store on ps4 in North America since 12/4/15. It doesn't say beta on the listing either. And there is already DLC out for it.

It does say Beta beside it now. They made and kept the game available for download so that people could have it ready for the windows during which beta servers were up.

You can still download it now, and the servers will be up for play on the 19th. I'm sure there will be some size of update on the 19th as well, patching in fixes from the beta.

@Johny_47: IN this case it would be hard to make it cross play.
Not technically but the pc version is way ahead of consoles regarding updates,new tanks,new maps.
Consoles just arent up to date with pc version

@Smosh150: The consoles versions are completely different from the PC versions. tanks are balanced different. Also the console version is way behind on number of tanks and updates like sladakrobot said.

After trying it on my Xbone I can 100% say that this is best played on PC. Trying to maneuver with a controller and navigate the menus just isn't the same.

I would recommend all PS4 players give this a try (I have it on the Xbox one). It's a very unique type of "shooter", as you have to account for a lot of various factors including maneuvering, types of rounds, types of armors and more. For free, you'd be robbing yourself to not try it.

@numinex10: How so? Other than the gold ammunition there really isn't a problem imo, unless you mean the grind(Though that is apart of it, if you don't enjoy the grind then what are you playing the game for).

@dancegdance: Indeed, which is only why it is a slight issue for me. It doesn't make it pay to win, but when some(Very slim given the price, hence it being slight) use it as their primary ammunition source because they are spending real money it is kind of annoying. Not that I encounter players like that often, I usually do good playing free only.
