WRC 6 Announced for PS4, Xbox One, PC

Narrower courses and longer races headline changes.

Kylotonn Racing Games has announced WRC 6, the latest entry in the long running rally racing series. The title is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in late 2016.

According to a press release, Kylotonn has used much of the feedback from WRC 5 in designing its follow-up.

"We spent the last 8 months, since the release of WRC 5, collecting and studying all the feedback from the community to improve the experience and take it to a new level," said game director Alain Jarniou.

Among the changes made based on feedback is narrower and longer courses, Jarniou went on to explain.

"The experience gained from WRC 5 helped the team to completely understand the expectations of racing fans when it comes to rallying. Roads were too wide in WRC 5? They will be narrower and more bumpy in WRC 6. Stages were sometimes too short? We created new longer stages and reworked everything to make them longer and more challenging."

The developer has said it plans to announce additional features "in the coming weeks," and will show the game more at E3 in June.

WRC 6 will be the official game of the FIA World Rally Championship and, as such, it will feature all 14 rounds of the 2016 WRC season, along with drivers and teams from the main and junior WRC categories.

I didn't buy WRC 5 though I found it intiguing. I own both PC and PS4. 30fps for a racing game really is not ideal. I'm not a 60fps snob, but certain games do suffer from the lower framerate and racing games is one of them, so I was put off the PS4 version. My current PC is ancient (to give you an idea, I'm still running Vista) though I will be buying a new one in the near future. Even then, I heard that the game was poorly optimised and even high end rigs were struggling, so I'll wait and see what they do with 6.

@StokeMeAClipper:

I have never seen any issue with a game running at 30FPS it literally makes no difference to me.

@Marky360: Well medically speaking a normal human eye/brain can detect motion judder below 60fps. 60fps is scientifically determined to be the average cutoff point whereby above that number we can't easily determine increased smoothness. For me 30fps is very noticeable.

@Marky360: I'm not saying I find them unplayable. I just find certain games benefit from 60fps.

@StokeMeAClipper:

If I'm being honest though I really can't tell a difference and it really doesn't matter to me whether the game is 60 or 30 it's really all the same to me.

@Marky360: As with stuff like screen tearing, some people are more sensitive to it than others.

@Marky360: Perhaps there is something with your brain/ocular system that prevents you from seeing it but below 60fps people can start to see frame stepping. On a TV or movie theater screen at 24 fps you can see it easily whenever there's a car or train moving by or along a road or track. You can see the frame steps. The motion isn't smooth when you notice it.

I doubt any rally game could challenge Dirt Rally!

It was about time for Codemasters to return to their roots!

(If only the menus and interface wouldn't be so bad tho...)

Hope these guys get it right. I had WRC1, 2, 3 and 4 and really liked them...thought they were all underrated, but by the time WRC 5 came out, both Seb Loeb Rally and DiRT Rally were on the horizon and were looking looking. I got Seb Loeb and never looked back frankly...it's a great rally game. WRC's failings were always the weak graphics, and as they said above, the width of and length of the courses. Not quite as short as DiRT 2 and 3, but still too short. When you get really stuck into a stage, you really want it to last 10 or 12 minutes, not 3 or 4.

Will happily get WRC6 if it fixes these things...I love the WRC - it's the greatest motor sport there is (with the possible exception of British Touring Cars imo).
