WWE All Stars bring the fight to 3DS

THQ confirms over-the-top, arcade-style wrestling game headed to Nintendo's handheld on November 22 with the console versions' DLC characters and two exclusive modes.

WWE 12 is set for a November 22 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii, but THQ isn't completely ignoring handheld gamers eager to exchange season's beatings this year. The publisher today confirmed that the arcade-style WWE All Stars will arrive on the 3DS on the same day that its more simulation-driven counterpart hits consoles.

All Stars had a character creator, presumably to see if it were possible to have a wrestler more outlandish than the Ultimate Warrior. (Xbox 360 version shown.)
All Stars had a character creator, presumably to see if it were possible to have a wrestler more outlandish than the Ultimate Warrior. (Xbox 360 version shown.)

WWE All Stars debuted its exaggerated brand of wrestling action on a variety of platforms in March, but 3DS owners will be rewarded somewhat for their patience. In addition to the game's 3D visuals, WWE All Stars on the 3DS will include two exclusive new modes and 13 playable characters that were previously offered as downloadable add-ons for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of All Stars. With a roster pulled from the WWE's past and present, All Stars allowed for players to pit legends like The Ultimate Warrior and "Macho Man" Randy Savage against more contemporary grapplers like John Cena and Randy Orton.

While the game was released as an "over-the-top" alternative to THQ's primary WWE franchise, it might not have been sufficiently in excess of the top for the publisher's liking. Next year the company will publish WWE Brawl, which does away with the wrestling ring in favor of fully destructible environments and gives characters like the Undertaker and Triple H super powers and (more) exotic back stories.

The third party support seems to be picking up a lil steam, hopefully this helps sell some 3DS units and awakens the full potential of this handheld.

As much as I hate to admit it, I really enjoy this game. Call it a guilty pleasure. I'm sick of the nickle and dime garbage with DLC. Just give me the whole game. Is $60 not enough for these people????

Over the top wrestling and if this port can somewhat make use of the 3DS 3D effects then it might work out. Given that this game came out this year for every 7th Generation videogame machine. Even this game came to the Playstation 2. Every system. Except the Nintendo DS lite, DSi, DS Xl. So at late 2011 port to the 3DS should be "ok" as long as they just didn't tac on 3D effects. The 3DS needs games so even one with Hulk Hogan can help.

I still don't get why THQ had to make a port for the 3DS and not an exclusive title. I mean in able to persuade ppl to buy your game on a new hardware you don't give them a port of an old game, you give them a new exclusive game that take advantage of the new hardware. Another opportunity wasted.

Not really my type of game, but it's always great to see a new system (from any company) getting third-party support.

Not a big fan of wrestling titles but it is still indeed a game for the 3ds and that is always good!

@dreamgod247 the online multiplayer would be rubbish like every other WWE game which are full of lag THQ can't built a stable online system for these games.

If WWE All Stars has a online multiplayer, this could be a great game to get. But don't give me the psp port, that game look like crap.

It'll have some pretty graphics, but I can't see myself buying. Still, it's not shovelware.
