Does anyone else feel like Xbox came ready for a fight but nobody got in the ring?

Don't get me wrong there were some sweet games at each showing but overall nobody aimed to compete.

Name the one thing which impressed you the most about Xbox’s show. Try to come up with something. Pushing all excuses to one side for a moment, all this optimism must have been motivated by the reveal of something pretty amazing.

@bloodbornelore: The part I liked best was that basically all of the games shown off are just going to get added to my Game Pass library as they come out.

@thecupidstunts: Fair play. I had seen FH5 and indeed, it looks incredible, but I didn’t know about Stalker 2. Just seen it and wow, F me... freakin gorgeous! Xbox have new gen graphics! I’ll put my hands up, as I was very skeptical about that.

Really good show overall my only complaint is the non-gameplay trailers. Nearly impossible for me to get interested or excited for a game when zero gameplay is shown. But other than that this was a great showing for Xbox and GamePass specifically.

@bababooey12: Some Fable 4 gameplay to combat the new release of the new Ratchet would have been nice. I would have also liked to have seen some next-gen graphics in some form or another.

An excellent show. 9/10. The so called ‘Xbox got no games’ BS just got crushed. Anyone who wasn’t impressed must have rocks in their head. Tons of games. And the thing is most of the games studios under Xbox were not even represented at this show which is crazy. Perfect Dark, Fable, Avowed, Everwild, Compulsion Games new game InXiles new game were not there. Xbox has way more games coming. Much more than playstation. More variety too. And there all on Gamepass. Xbox is killing it and that was one of their best if not the best shows they’ve ever had.

Halo Infinite looks awesome. I thought the graphics of the July event were great but damn the graphics look sic now. And Forza Horizon looks insane, Stalker 2 looks stunning. Man what a show.

Xbox brought a Brute hammer to a knife fight. Tons of great games coming with the vast majority coming to Gamepass.

And Horizon 5 might be the most beautiful game I've ever seen.

A phenomenal show & great pacing, accolades to all those who contributed. Forza just looked jaw dropping & I cannot believe how lush the jungles were with vegetation & how dense the environments look...I did not think it was possible this gen. Halo echoed back to what made it great & I hope at the very least it is as great as Halo 3. Great that they listened & had little to no yapping & just game showing!

With that being said I am not interested in most of those games. I wish I could play Forza, but do not like sims...any way to make that game more arcade like Ridge Racer? The games I am interested in are Halo, Back 4 Blood, Redfall, Aliens Fireteam, Guardians of Galaxy, The Ascent & Battlefield 2042 (at $20 since no single player!). I am surprised they did not show any Crossfire X???? What gives????

Would have loved to see a new Wolfenstein SINGLE PLAYER game & some 007 gameplay footage!

I always bought XB for my BRO games & now I feel emptier without a massive list to play.

@sladakrobot: No kidding, looks like I have to try my free xb360 Horizon then, as I always thought they were all sims & based on that decide if it is arcade enough for me & maybe add FH5 to my list. Which would be awesome!

I love the arcade feel of the new Dirt 5, just wish the graphics were more like FH5.

@just1mohr: You should. Forza Horizon 4 was, hands down, my favorite racer in the last console generation. Just think of it as arcade-y as Sega Rally, but in an open world where there are daily and weekly challenges, online race events that you can join seamlessly, stunt work and jump puzzle excursions, exploration, mini story events, and progressive seasons in a robust career. Completing challenges open up new challenges on the map along with rewards. There really aren't many racers out there like this... and there aren't really many racers out there this good.

An excellent showcase. I can't wait for Halo Infinite even though I am cautiously optimistic of 343's direction. I have a feeling that the Masterchief Collection might have lit a fire under 343's rear. Multiplayer looks like a marriage between old Halo and 343 Halo vibes; though I would prefer they nix the grappling hook. Forza Horizon 5 looks incredible. I don't expect anything less from Playground Games. The indies Somerville and Replaced will be something to watch. I'll reserve judgment on Redfall until we see gameplay, but its mood reminds me of a White Wolf's Hunter series... and I'm down for that.

Is starfield legit exclusive or just a timed exclusive? Because I’m not an Xbox fan at all but was really looking forward to starfield. I honestly didn’t think they’d risk losing the profits from keeping it multiplat. Nice score for Xbox fans if it is truly exclusive.

@rmulatz: Well...score...Dunno if we can call it a score as that costed 7.5 Billion dollars to Microsoft...lol It's not an in house product at all.

And it won't be an exclusive like PS games, you can play it on Pc day 1 :)

And don't get your hopes high...it's Bethesda with a New Game Engine...lol and we all know how that is going to pan out for at least the first 2 years of this game lol It will be quite the sight to behold...lol :)

@rmulatz: Well I could be mistaken, thought in the past they would normally state a game as timed exclusive or at the very least mention it afterwards. As it stands its exclusive. I wouldn't expect anything different, now that they own the studios.

Microsoft has made it clear they want their games to be playable by any with gamepass aka Xbox, PC etc...Sony didn't want to be a part of Gamepass. I would say personally forget them. You can thank Sony. You never know though...

@bababooey12: I’ve been around long enough to realize that sometimes “exclusive” can be fairly flexible. I’ve often heard in years past companies say certain games are exclusive to their console and you learn later it’s a timed exclusive. But that sounds typically with third party games, and we are talking about first party which is a different issue…sort of. Honestly, I can’t see extremely expensive games like Starfield being true exclusives, MS would be losing tons of money for arguably little to no benefit. Especially with game pass meaning people are paying barely anything to play compared to how companies usually make money - game sales at full price.

But if I’m wrong, I’m wrong and Xbox fans have some great exclusives finally.

@rmulatz: Yea been around a while too. I would say normally when an exclusive is revealed during an event, they'll mention whether it's timed or not. That isn't always the case, especially when the release is over a year away.

I was hinting at the same thing you were saying that with them owning Bethesda etc I wouldn't count on it being timed, but rather exclusive.

Microsoft has tons of money...this has been talked about before. Not having the game on Sony isn't probably going to hurt them as much as one would think. They are more interested in the money that can be made off of their hardware, subscriptions etc.

Also, sure they've thought about it from this stand point too...if I owned both consoles I wouldn't spend the $60 to get it on PS5, when I could just play it on Xbox with Game Pass. I'm sure they've thought about it from all sides before making a game completely exclusive.

@bababooey12: fair point, but as far as I know, Bethesda is still their own company. They are owned by MS, but still a separate corporation. As a separate corporation, they are still expected to make money to put toward game development. What I don’t understand is how Bethesda can make money spending possibly hundreds of millions to make new open-world RPGs which ms pays them a fraction of each subscription? Does MS just keep pumping money into them forever to subsidize game pass subscriptions? Maybe…but I think it’s far more likely that eventually the big games go multiplayer like how Oblivion once was “exclusive”. There is just too much money to be made that route, and zero evidence Xbox is ever going to be meaningfully competitive as a console. The PS5 and Switch are both crushing them with no sign of slowing down.

If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. I’ve already got more games to play than time. Plus I have a PC to play it on if needed. And While I’m not an Xbox or MS fan, the Xbox is in desperate need of exclusives like this, so this is good for Xbox owners. I just don’t believe it’s going to be truly a “forever” exclusive. Not even MS can bleed money forever and keep shareholders happy. At some point these game studios will need to show a return on investment, and game pass doesn’t provide that for game developers as far as I can tell.

Meh...Was actually expecting more from Microsoft. Really.

Xbox is still missing a game on the level of a TLoU, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank RA or even Horizon Forbidden West, most likely the GOTY this year.

Still a long way to go, but it's a start I guess...Sony is still miles away when it comes to exclusives and their quality.

@FkzAz: As the other user pointed out the majority of the games mentioned single player. I prefer games with mutiplayer even if the single player is just average I'm fine with that....as the mutiplayer keeps me wanting to come back and play(more replay value). I get bored with single player type of games, especially the ones you mentioned. That hack and slash Japanese style of games don't really appeal to me(pretty common on PS). For example FF series I find to be cheesy..At any rate, it would be a waste of $60 or more to play a single player game for me, unless it's like ES....Microsoft has a little bit of everything as proven with their conference...more importantly though they understand multiplayer is important, where Sony tends to lack in that department.

Miles away in exclusives maybe....but anybody can see that Microsoft is closing that gap little by little....as for quality all the games you listed...meh.

@bababooey12:

Not all the games he mentioned were MEH. TLOU and UC4 are definitely overrated (I know he never mentioned UC4) but there’s no denying GOW and Spidey are stellar. Haven’t play GOT yet waiting til I get a ps5 and Ratchet looks amazing but I’m not sold on the gameplay. Plus I find it hard to spend $70 on any game now what with having Gamepass.

@gamerbum: Ah meh to me I've seen too many Spider-Man movies...could careless to play a game. Not to mention again Spider-Man and GOW are single player games right. To me Spider-Man is one of those games that while graphic wise it looks nice, I know I'd never finish the game..aka a waste of money to me.

GOD Of War has that same hack and slash jump in the air type of style that is a signature of Sony games....to me it's cheesy. Like I find FF games to be cheesy. Now, back in the day I enjoyed R&C however I was also like 15 then...my tastes just like others have changed.

IMO Xbox is the more mature console of the three and offers a way more variety of games, couple that with the better mutiplayer experience.

@bababooey12: As for Spider-Man, I actually thought the same. That I wouldn't finish it and get bored. The end result ? I Platinumed the game a few weeks ago on PS5. The game is just so god damn fun...and everything works just the way you want it. The gameplay is superb. A true must play for any gamer.

As for the Xbox being more mature then PS...Really ?...The Last of Us ?...God of War ?...Ghosts of Tsushima ?...

Or even the Persona series that tackles themes like Rape, Abuse, Homosexuality, etc ?...

Being a mature game it's not about gore. The narratives and it's content is what makes something mature.

Gore just for the sake of gore can be nothing but a show off for teens, because without a real purpose underneath it, it's just something that in fact ends up being a less mature product...

The perfect gaming example of Gore done right ? TLoU series.

And btw..what are those mature xbox games that you were talking about lol ?

@FkzAz: I wonder why only action-adventure single-player games can have a shot at GOTY

@MigGui: because there are limitations to what can be done with online multiplayer games. While fun and having more replay ability, you lose the character development, story/narrative, big exciting set piece moments, etc. It’s like comparing sports to a big budget movie. Both have their merits, but they are totally different experiences and when it comes to game that driver memorable characters and story moments and world building, single player games still far exceed any other genre. So they get GOTY. Multiplayer games will always be super popular though but I actually get bored of them really quickly, but that’s just me.

@rmulatz: but story-driven adventure games and online multiplayer games are not the only two genres out there. RPGs have everything you mentioned, but there's no RPG GOTY since The Witcher 3 in 2015. And GOTY is game of the year, not story of the year, so I don't really think only games with good stories should qualify for GOTY.

Anyway, put a good story on Halo: Infinite and it seems, from the looks of it, it's got some chance this time around.

@rmulatz:

Gameplay is king though. If the gameplay is MEH I could care less about story etc.

@gamerbum: this is a bit of a strawman though because it assumes a number of incorrect positions. For example, you are assuming the gameplay of some online shooter is better than single player games. The reality is online shooters really don’t evolve or advance much over time. It’s mostly about graphical upgrades usually. And really, why fix something that ain’t broken. But since for player games just have more going for them in terms of an experience. The gameplay is solid BUT it also has more to offer with a story and world building, etc. It everybody cares about those things, which is totally fair, but I would think having more ways of providing an engaging experience is going to be better than games with less of those things. Hope that makes sense.
