Xbox Boss Further Emphasizes Possibility Of Classic Halo Experiences On PC

Could past Halo games finally come to PC?

The common refrain, "Bring Halo to PC!" is over a decade old now, and fans still clamber for any news or hint of new Halo title on PC. This is why players still flock to unofficial and sometimes unauthorized community projects like the ElDewrito mod for Halo Online, which Microsoft recently started cracking down on. However, in the aftermath of that news, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has highlighted the possibility of "a classic Halo experience" coming to PC.

In developer 343 Industries' response to the ElDewrito situation, it gave the barest of hints that another Halo title may finally come to PC, years after Halo 2 launched on Windows Vista. "As we look ahead, we're very excited about the prospects of an official classic Halo experience making its way to PC and we hope to be able to partner with the ElDewrito team and broader mod and content creation community," 343i stated.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Halo 6's Development Won't Be Impacted By Ongoing Support For Older Titles

Spencer himself then tweeted out this quote, adding, "This point is important." Of course, there are a few ways to take this. First, he could be simply saying that it's worth noting that the developer will continue to work with passionate community modders in the future. However, he could also be drawing attention to the "prospects" of Halo on PC in the future.

Only two mainline Halo games have ever been released to wide audiences on PC, Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. Halo 5's Forge mode was also made available to PC players. As a result of Microsoft's Play Anywhere initiative, Halo 6 will almost certainly come to Windows 10 in addition to Xbox One. However, most of the series is still unavailable to PC players. It's impossible to know whether 343 Industries is considering a port of an entire game or just a multiplayer experience in the vein of Halo: Online; however, there's a chance we see some sort of Halo news at E3 this year (even if Halo 6 won't be there).

@alexofburg: Alex, do you realize the story you linked about Halo 6 not being at E3 was from 2017? I think it’s pretty much a certainty it will be there in some form at the upcoming E3

Oh, for goodness sake... Either you are or you aren't, Microsoft. Stop it with your pointless teasing already.

Seriously, does anyone even care anymore whether Halo comes to PC? It seems like they've been teasing the possibility for so long that by now anyone who was interested either bought an Xbox Console to play the series on or lost interest.

You know it's xbox exclusive for a reason. Also there's already Halo 1 and 2 on PC just play that if you want it so badly.

Referencing and article before the last E3 to say that Halo 6 won’t be at this E3 was not your best moment Alex...

So they are going from no new exclusives for xbox to remaking an old and overhyped scifi fps that was only mediocre for PC? Wow

I have almost given up on Microsoft to produce truly impressive single player exclusives. I will wait until E3.

@SsangyongKYRON: The situation is sort of comparable to DC rushing its cinematic universe to catch up with marvel. If microsoft rushes projects out the gate and say we want a game like "God Of War" etc then the games will only end up being mediocre.

Maybe some fans tired of waiting years and years for other MS projects should start making them so MS can sue them and then actually make the damn thing everyone's been asking them for years... This is seriously the worst business model I've ever seen. Market research by litigation or something.

Halo 3, Halo ODST and Ninja Gaiden 2 on PC and then I can officially throw my Xboxes from a balcony.

In way I hope it would be MCC, but on another I hope it's the first step of X0/X360 games coming to PC

Though Combat Evolved still works so well on PC that it's not the biggest deal

People seem to forget that Microsoft owns Windows. The more sales the better.

@alexofburg: I think they'd rather sell an Xbox than sell one copy of an old game on Windows. It's common knowledge that people who once only bought Xbox to play Halo and some of the other exclusives are ditching it and buying those exclusives on PC, but buying 3rd party from steam or other outlets, which MS makes no money on. You want people to buy games, specifically 3rd party on your console, where you get a cut of the sale... Not on PC, where you get nothing(unless bought on Windows store, which is unlikely).

@alexofburg: Yeah, but it's kind of like making 2 products that do the same, and doing everything you can to make the other one redundant.

If Microsoft's endgame is to kill off the console (or totally re-brand it into a streambox) then it makes sense. Considering the wild choices X1 led by Mattrick had I'm willing to believe all theories. Maybe MS is simply unaware of how they're chewing away their console brand and one day they're surprised about what happened
