Xbox Games With Gold For February 2022: 3 Free Games Are Available Now

Aerial Knight's Never Yield is available to claim earlier than expected.

Three of the four free games from February's Games with Gold lineup are available to claim right now. Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate members can snag Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse, Aerial Knight's Never Yield, and Hydrophobia. Aerial Knight's Never Yield technically wasn't supposed to be free until tomorrow, but you can claim it early by logging into your Xbox account via a browser. Bang of Bugs will join the freebies tomorrow, and it's the last day to claim Hydrophobia.

Broken Sword 5 is a point-and-click adventure game that originally released as an episodic game starting in 2013. It revolves around a stolen painting and a grand conspiracy created by the Devil. If you like classic adventure games, Broken Sword 5 is worth checking out. It earned an 8/10 in our Broken Sword 5 review.

Aerial Knight's Never Yield is a 3D automatic runner that launched last year. Set in a futuristic version of Detroit, Aerial Knight's Never Yield stars Wally, a young man searching for answers to the city's problems. If you're a fan of fast-paced side-scrollers, it might be worth checking out. Plus, you could beat the game in one sitting, as each run only lasts around 1.5 hours. Aerial Knight's Never Yield will be available to claim February 16 to March 15.

Hypdrophobia is an action-adventure game set in a floating city that will be free during the first half of the month. Meanwhile, Band of Bugs is a turn-based tactics game starring, you guessed it, bugs.

Xbox Games with Gold for February 2022

  • Broken Sword 5 - Available February 1-28
  • Aerial Knight's Never Yield - Available February 16-March 15
  • Hydrophobia - Available February 1-15
  • Band of Bugs - Available February 16-28

Games with trash yet again. Microsoft can spend billions buying every publisher under the sun yet continues to give us trash for gold.

0-2 so far with GwG this year. TBH, I'd rather they limit it to 2 games which are really good than 4 mediocre ones.

This is amazing, as during the last few sales I debated whether to buy either of Hydrophobia & Aerial Knights Never Yield.

@fanboyman: Not even an exaggeration. I actually pulled out my 360 and the only 3rd party game worth playing that was exclusive at the time...still is by default: Pro Fishing Challenge from Atlas. The only fishing game that you could use a fishing controller with for the Xbox360. You could set the hook and cast because it had motion sensors built in, which only the Wii had at the time. You used to be able to play online against other people on the same lake when Atlas had servers up, also unique at the time. All the tackle was spec'd correctly too..correct lbs test ratings and other gear responded appropriately and with other gear. Still the most realistic fishing game ever made.

Wow..."Hydrophobia." There's a game I haven't thought about in more than a decade, apart from occasional thoughts of "What was that one game with the good water physics?"

@zmanbarzel: I have a similar problem with this old Western shooter I played on PC sometime in the '90s or maybe even a little after that. I get reminded of its imagery every now and then, but to this day I can't remember its name no matter how hard I search.

Yup, knew gamepASS would lead to more of this, at least PS owners can get online for $40 but M$ locks their price at $60. M$ is up to their old tricks yet AGAIN, even the people who don;t use gamepASS are paying for it!!!!

I am calling a long overdue $5-10 hike on gamepASS this year so they can pay for their 68.8 Billion.

@just1mohr: Weird, I haven't paid for Ultimate GamePass for almost 4 years now thanks to MS Rewards. Sure they are collecting my data, but who doesn't these days!

The PS+ lineup isn't any better. A sim more suited to PC, UFC4 and a 10 year old DLC dressed up as new content to promote the new Borderlands game in March.

PS+ is $60 by the way

@bu1ld0g: GP Ult is not even 3 years old, and unless the points-to-dollar conversion is different in your country (I'm Canadian), it takes a BOATLOAD of points to pay for a few months -- even just one month -- of GP Ultimate.

Let me put it into perspective on what it takes to earn lots of points per month (3000+):

- I was actually unemployed for a long time on a 3-year GP Ult subscription (which is about to end this summer), and spent quite a bit of time playing game pass.

- I stopped using Google and made Bing my primary search engine

- I made a family account and duplicated my daily Bing quizzes and all the little stuff to earn an extra ~50+ pts per day

- I had to dedicate myself to doing the majority, if not all, of the daily/weekly/monthly game pass regular/ultimate quests, in addition to getting an achievement per day to get the extra 50 points (this is much harder to do if you only play after work or on weekends)

- Had to stick with Xbox consoles, though I preferred my PC -- even before my recent upgrade -- so I could do claim the points for the stuff I mentioned above, and also do the weekly ultimate streaks outlined in the Rewards app (which is only available on console, hence my dedication to it).

I'm honestly not quite sure how many points I earn per month, as sometimes it's a heckuva lot, and sometimes it's only about 2500 or so. There were seasons where I regenerated 25K points with no trouble at all, and other seasons where I slogged to make back another 10K points. (I've earned several hundred thousand in the last 3 years alone).

I've acquired and spent so many points that I was able to buy the $25 CAD digital store credit for 23,900 points several times (it is actually better than the discounted monthly automatic $5 credit that you can opt-in to). I used it during various sales and bought the following with it at extreme discounts (some of which have not been matched):

- RE 2 Remake Deluxe

- Nier Automata (still on GP)

- MK 11 Ultimate + Injustice 2 Legendary bundle (now both MK11 & Inj2 regular are on GP, hilariously, and the sales discounts for the bundle itself are now better than what I had paid w/ points)

- RE: Code Veronica X (hilariously, many months after I bought it, it was free on GwG, though I had already beaten it by then, and I paid literally nothing for this)

- Shadow of the Tomb Raider: DE (hilariously got this on Epic Games Store a month later for free, sigh, but I basically got this Xbox One X version free as well)

- RDR2 Ultimate Edition (paid a measly $10 for this, and due to Rockstar being stiffs, I will never get this game's ultimate edition this cheap anywhere else, esp. for the superior PC port, which I might buy anyway bc this was so cheap).

I currently have enough leftover points to pay for several more of these digital gift cards and basically buy a new AAA for next to nothing.

TLDR: if I earn and spend so many points and am still hesitant to use it to pay for GP Ult monthly subs, then so should anybody else.

@Jarrkha: GP Ult is not even 3 years old

Yes, I stacked multiple years.

Purchased 3 years GWG via MSrewards points before they removed the yearly sub, converted it and the existing year I had to UGP for $1.

Currently it costs 35k points for 3 months of UGP. Doing just daily rewards on Edge, Edge mobile, any bonus searches that pop up, links on MS emails often give points, it's easily doable and takes maybe 20 minutes to do. Currently sitting on 45k points and the sub doesn't need renewing for a while.

If you don't want to spend your rewards on UGP then that's up to you, don't expect everybody to feel the same way though. I use it for the 24 360 titles per year that are yours to keep even after the sub expires, and for games on the PC.

There are reddit subs dedicate to maximizing your rewards gains if you're really interested. Quite often see posts where people have cashed them in for an Xbox Series X. Now that's a lot of clicking links!

(Edit: when I said that GP Ult is not even 3 years old, what I meant is that it is closer to 2.5 years -- now 2.66 almost -- and you wrote something along the lines of four. lol. Regardless, we cannot stack more than 3 years of ultimate anyway).

I've earned a lot over the last 3 years, friend! I also converted 3 years of stacked XBL Gold and existing regular/PC game pass trials/subs to Ultimate for $1 (Canadian dollar too!).

I've actually re-checked the Canadian offerings and the GP U gift card is now actually feasible; in my province it is now roughly 625 points required per dollar once HST is factored in. This was notthe case prior to the last time I checked a year or so ago, iirc, as it was something approximately the same in points-to-dollar value as the other digital gift cards I get.

However, the best way to acquire GP Ultimate is to still do the stacked conversion trick -- provided MS is still offering 1:1 conversion rate, which I think they are. It's still possible to find good 12-month subs to Gold with some thrifty searches, and buying regular/PC GP cards on the Canadian rewards store is better value (~500 points required per dollar; 1.25x better value than using 625 pts per dollar for GP ultimate).

I spent a lot of my unemployed time figuring this stuff out w/o Reddit and their bots. I believe some of those redditors are the guys who put forth the Bing search bots to help with the daily clicks (and it doesn't really save that much time considering there are daily caps, unless people happen to be greedy and use the family-sharing feature for multiple MS accounts).

The long-winded af points I was trying to make is: whether one is efficient and optimizing daily gains or not, doing all of this can sometimes be a chore -- I even took a season-long break a winter or two ago -- and that the store credit gift cards (like the $25 CAD ones), though worse in terms of points-per-dollar, offer ubiquity.

Having said that, I've got more than enough owned and GwG-given games to last forever, and my Play Later list on Game Pass grows every few months now (instead of shrinks), so I think I'm done buying games on Xbox with my points.... Unless I panic and don't finish one on time before it leaves, lmao.

@bu1ld0g: Nope, you don't even have to wait for Black Friday for $40. Go to Ebay & look up "ps plus" and you will see them hoovering around low $40 and once in a while dip below 40.

I bought them for other family members of mine who use PS4/5 online.

@just1mohr: Ahh, so were pretending Xbox doesn't have sales on Live? Got it...

Why even bother comparing services if you are going to compare a sale price with full price?

You can also grab a 12 month Gold sub for $40, so what's your point?

@Jarrkha: No, I am serious you go on Ebay in the US & you find them for around $39.99-42 all the time. On Black Friday they go on sale all over for $40.

@just1mohr: Yeah, non-US can't make use of those deals, and we make up as many gamers as your country does (if not more). So forgive me if I don't put stock into your POV for purchasing. We don't get these eBay deals nearly as much as you do, and we also can't use many of those grey market purchases you have (they tend to be valid for specific countries, sometimes regions).

I go to various grey market websites and whatnot to get deals on actual games (mostly PC). The region-locking is becoming more common.

@Jarrkha: So that's what happened to the gift card codes that were part of PS5 digital bundle I bought at launch. A full year membership didn't work because they stole and resold the codes. Even at twice the price, it's better than the Trash Pass. if you don't use the console for anything it doesn't matter how good of a deal it is. It'll take another 2 years before they have a single exclusive worth buying it for not called Forza and you can bet your house it'll be loaded with micro transactions. I'll happily pay $70 for a good game vs that and it's why I my XSX is giant dust collecting paper weight.

At this point you could argue that M$ are deliberately giving poor games with GwG in order to push Gamepass even harder.

Personally, I enjoyed Broken Sword 5 but an old school point and click isn't going to win over many gamers.

Hold your horses... If you loved Advance Wars or FF Tactics on GameBoy Advance/DS, ABSOLUTELY play Band of Bugs. Huge amount of light tactical combat, and it's quite fun.

I never clicked with Broken Sword, but millions have.

But yeah, it feels like they're winding down toward inevitably dropping Gold and transitioning everything to Game Pass
