Xbox One Adds Do Not Disturb Features And New Achievement Mode In Preview Update

New alpha build has gone live for some players.

If you're a Xbox One Insider, you may be able to download a brand-new update. A Preview alpha build is now available for download for some players who take part in the Insiders Program, which allows players to test out new system and games features before they go live to all other players. Some new features will be available right away, with others rolling out over the next several weeks.

The biggest addition coming for Xbox Insiders is the Next Achievements feature in the guide. Now, those who test new features and games from Xbox One will be able sort a cross-games list of upcoming Achievements. This way, you can easily see which Achievements you're closest to and quickly launch the game to achieve them. You can also sort your Achievements by how rare they are.

Mini Game Hubs will also be available right in the guide, which means you'll be able to access game content from games you've recently played without having to leave the Game Hub itself. Mini Game Hubs allow you to easily see friends who are currently playing, upcoming Achievements, Looking for Group posts, and more.

There are also a few tweaks to social settings. A Do Not Disturb online status is coming, which will suppress notifications and let your friends know you're unavailable at the moment. Comments on community posts are also getting an adjustment, and soon you'll be able to peek at the most recent comment and see who has liked your comments. The Narrator is also now able to read large amounts of text.

The alpha build will also add additional inactivity shut down options to the power mode and the startup menu. You'll now be able to shut down the console after two, three, four, and five hours of inactivity. Some Insiders will also see "additional experimental features" to gauge interest and collect feedback on them.

Xbox is also investigating a series of issues and working out bug fixes, in this latest build, for the issues below:

  • A fix is now being determined for guide/home crashes. In the interim, Insiders are being asked to do hard reboot by holding the power button down for ten seconds to fix this issue.
  • For users encountering issues where some installed games are failing to launch: If the games are installed to an external drive, Insiders are being asked to copy the game to the internal drive or attempt to delete the title and re-download.
  • Xbox is investigating the inaccurate RGB colors that have been reported when displaying in 4K HDR mode when playing a UHD disc.
  • Xbox is looking into a few localization issues, as well:
    • The left and right navigation for selecting date and time during Tournament creation is currently reversed when the console language is set to Arabic or Hebrew.
    • The left and right navigation in Tournament twists is reversed when the console language is set to Arabic or Hebrew.
    • The left and right navigation in the bracket view of Tournaments is reversed when the console language is set to Arabic or Hebrew/
  • Users wishing to represent themselves as an avatar can do so by changing their settings under My profile > Customize profile > Show my avatar.

"Do not disturb" for when "Appear Offline" just isn't good enough and you need to let your friends know you're online but just can't be bothered with them.

I like to wear out the 'Do Not Disturb' sign when staying at hotels

@ericthegreat: . On my LG B6 (65inch 4K OLED HDR) it looks fine but on my buddies LCD based HDR tv it has issues so it definitely matters what tv you have and also important is whether the TV is properly calibrated. I had color issues when I did a calibration using the Disney WOW Blu-ray but that's because it's for 1080p SDR content.

The bug seems fairly new as well. I didn't notice any issues in prior revisions but with the last update I saw some banding on a couple darker color toned UHD Blu-ray's

Thankfully its a codec update away from being fixed and won't effect anyone aside from alpha dash users.

I just wish they would update the damn YouTube app to support 60fps. It never made sense why even on the Xbox one it didn't support it but it did on every other version of the app for any other device. Now we have the x1x and it's still the same garbage 30fps YouTube app. I've put in more feature requests for that than anything else but it's really out of Microsoft's hands...so let's get moving Google, you have had years now and the app has seen like 50 updates since launch.

PlayStation has "appear offline". Is this something different or are they now just implementing this feature?

@khanwashere: Offline has been in Xbox consoles for many years. PlayStation added if fairly recently.

The 'Do No Disturb' was a common request by streamers who were getting tired of streaming their games and having notifications keep popping up on their consoles during the streams. On popular streams viewers often keep sending messages to the streamer so their gamertag would appear to everyone watching the stream. The gamer will still appear online to everyone and you can still see what game they are playing when DND is set.

@khanwashere: trying to punk Xbox only to sound like an Ignoramus. Appear off line has been on Xbox as long as Ive had one since early 360. Keep in mind it's PlayStation that blatantly steals ideas such as achievements which might be the biggest most obvious rip off in gaming history

@BuyaPC: it's actually had it since the original Xbox but not only the 1st major xbl revision which came out at the same time as halo 2.

@khanwashere: Xbox also has Appear Offline. 'Do Not Disturb' is appearing online, but you aren't bothered with notifications or messages etc. It shows friends "Hey, I'm online, but leave me alone"

Great idea! Sometimes you just want to sit back and explore Skyrim or Skellige without feeling obligated to accept the invitation your friends sent you for Rocket League.

"Do not disturb" feature.

Pretty much what everyone on these forums wish they had for me.
