Xbox One Beta For DayZ Dev's New Survival Shooter, Vigor, Available Now To Some
Xbox Insiders can now try out the new "cutthroat" post-apocalyptic shooter.
Bohemia Games, the developer of Arma and DayZ, has kicked off a beta for its new Xbox One shooter, Vigor. Members of the Xbox Insider program have their first opportunity to try out the upcoming survival game, which is slated to launch exclusively for Microsoft's console early next year.
To participate in the Vigor beta, launch the Xbox Insider hub on your console and navigate to the Insider content option to locate the beta. After selecting "join," you'll be automatically taken to a page on the Microsoft Store where you'll be able to download the beta client.
First revealed at E3 2018, Vigor is described as a "more hardcore take on the post-apocalyptic survival genre." The game is set in Scandinavia during an alternate history 1991, where a nuclear bomb has ravaged Europe. Each player in Vigor takes on the role of an "outlander," with the objective being to gather resources, improve their shelter, and battle against other players in a struggle for survival.
Each "engagement" in Vigor features eight to 16 players, and they must compete to find loot around the map and kill other players. Despite some similarities to battle royale games, Bohemia stresses that Vigor is a different kind of experience. The game features no kill feed and a minimal HUD, and matches are capped at 20 minutes, although they can end sooner than that if all players are killed or everyone manages to escape the map. You can watch us try out the Vigor beta in the video above.
Vigor will launch in Xbox Game preview sometime this summer through a Founder's Pack. Bohemia hasn't announced pricing details for this yet, but the developer says the Founder's Pack will grant players access to the game along with a variety of exclusive rewards. The game is slated to officially launch for Xbox One in February 2019, and it will be free-to-play.
