Xbox One preorders "through the roof" at GameStop, says Microsoft
Aaron Greenberg says strong demand led retailer to halt preorders for next-generation machine.
Demand for the Xbox One at GameStop was "through the roof," leading the retailer to halt preorders for the next-generation system, according to Xbox chief of staff Aaron Greenberg.
"Demand was through the roof, so preorders stopped for now," Greenberg said on Twitter. "Get on the GameStop first to know list for preorder updates."
GameStop began accepting preorders for the Xbox One on June 10, the day Microsoft announced the console's $500 price point and November release window.
The PlayStation 4 is also sold out through GameStop, with the retailer citing "high demand" as its reason for no longer accepting preorders for the system.
Neither Microsoft nor Sony has disclosed specific preorder figures for their respective next-generation systems. However, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said last week that some retailers are reporting double the number of preorders compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The Xbox One and PS4 launch this holiday season. Both next-generation systems will be playable for the public at the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas next month.
