Xbox One sold 3 million units in 2013, Microsoft says

Microsoft has boasted that the Xbox One sold more than three million units worldwide before the end of 2013.

"Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013," said Xbox executive Yusuf Mehdi today in a statement. The Xbox One launched on November 22 in North America, the UK, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and New Zealand.

Microsoft has also said that the Xbox One was the fastest-selling console for November in the US, after the company reported that the new console sold one million consoles worldwide on launch date, and crossed the two million threshold on December 11.

Meanwhile, Sony reported at the start of December that the PlayStation 4 had sold 2.1 million units worldwide. But will Sony follow Microsoft's latest announcement with an updated sales figure of its own?

"Together, we ushered in a new era of games and entertainment with Xbox One," added Mehdi.
