Xbox One X Benefits For Titanfall 2 Revealed

"Titanfall 2 on Xbox One X is a substantially clearer/sharper image presentation."

Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall 2 is among the more than 130 Xbox One games getting enhanced for Xbox One X. Now, we've learned a lot more about the specific improvements that players on Microsoft's new console can expect.

In an Xbox Wire post, Respawn lead producer Drew McCoy started off by saying the rendering details and dynamic resolution ceiling have been increased. "This means the game will always output a 4K signal, but dynamically alter the resolution based on GPU load to ensure smooth framerates," he explained.

What's more, Respawn is now using a feature from the PC version--dynamic superscaling--on Xbox One X that ensures the game uses 100% of the GPU.

"Titanfall 2 on Xbox One X is a substantially clearer/sharper image presentation," McCoy said. "Players will notice lots of little details in the world and it maintains the fluid 60 fps framerate needed for smooth gameplay more often so you won' see any frame rate drops even with a bunch of 20 foot Titans battling it out at once."

Go to the Xbox Wire to hear everything McCoy had to say about the Xbox One X enhancements for Titanfall 2. And for more on Xbox One X-enhanced games, check out our roundup of all them here.

The Xbox One X launches on November 7, priced at $500 in the US. We'll have lots more on the console in the days and weeks ahead, so keep checking back soon for more.

Go check out the DF video and they are very disappointed at the X's performance with the so called enhancements. The PRO outperforms it, so HA!! Another lie.

Scorpio is not the true 4K box. Next generation consoles will be though.

@nativepixel: It's not going to do true 4K on many, they even said a lot will be checkerboarded like the Pro. Also the weak processor in it will SURELY bottleneck causing horrid performance. And possibly even crashing the game, let's not forget the problems XB1 has, or have had. Also with a demanding game like Rise Of TR they had to cut corners, and they said 4K is NOT the ideal way to play it. Go check out Digital Foundry, they know their sh$#. :)

What does that mean if I have an XBOneX and a 1080p TV? The GPU's 4K but my TV is outputting at 1080p, will it be pushing the hardware for nothing?

@fanboyman: You get supersampling. So, if you've ever watched a 4K video on a 1080p screen, and compared it to the 1080p video, that's the difference. It's basically a slightly crisper image. Plus, for other games that don't allow a full 1080p on the base model, it'll do so on the X if the game is supported. So taking Quantum Break as an example, that game on the base model Xbox One is only 720p, but they're enhancing it on the X so you'll get 1080p on a 1080p screen.

@fanboyman: Basically what he's saying is you can just buy a PS4 where the games already run at full 1080p and look great. WithOUT having to be enhanced, with no need for 4K...until PS5 I'm sure. Just like the Pro, the X is totally unecessary.

@fanboyman: You benefit from faster load times and better graphics (improved textures, lighting, texture filtering, draw distance etc).

It's not just about pushing more pixels, it's the better graphics to go with it. 4K HDR will look better, but supersampled 1080p will still look a lot better than any other console on your TV.

@fanboyman: 1080p on the X will look better than 900p on the S. But without a 1080p TV don't bother. You really need to have the right display device for the console that matches it best.

I suck at multiplayer but the Titanfall 2 single player campaign was a lot of fun. Especially that part in the middle (don't want to spoil).

@Flyin3lvl:It does the exact same thing on PC. The dynamic resolution allows the reso. to go even above 4K, which is how when testing the feature Titanfall 2 was able to reach 6K on the 1X.

@nativepixel: But it also lets it drop below 4k to maintain framerate. 60 fps is what is most important to them. Though they said it also has a resolution floor, at which point it will drop the framerate to keep the image from being garbage.

Impressive, respawn.

If I to was making a game, I could scale it upwards to 8k, but no hardware would play it apart from the hardware I purchased.

@toonarmy20: Guess that means you should brush up on your reading and searching skills. "the game will always output a 4K signal, but dynamically alter the resolution based on GPU load to ensure smooth framerates". Framerate is the most important thing, Drew has previously told Digital Foundry that the game will dip below native 4k to maintain the 60 fps.

Also other quotes about the 6k, "The output resolution is 4K, but its rarely sitting on just 4K. It’ll dip and rise constantly". "What we’ve essentially (in theory) done is gone from a locked resolution and variable framerate, to a “locked” framerate and variable resolution. This does not mean the game is always 60 hz, as there are points in the game where we are not GPU limited (or we are GPU limited, but the lower bound isn’t low enough to maintain 60 hz" Aka resolution and framerate drop, guess even the might X1X cannot keep up all the time.

Your welcome ?

@toonarmy20: Here, let me isolate them for you so you don't miss them and bold the important parts.

"dynamically alter the resolution based on GPU load to ensure smooth framerates,"

"Drew has previously told Digital Foundry that the game will dip below native 4k to maintain the 60 fps"

@toonarmy20: LOL I didn't cherry pick anything, if you bothered to read my second post it included the "the game will always output a 4K signal" part of the quote. Even checkerboard 4k outputs a 4k signal. No where did I ever say it wouldn't look great or that it couldn't render above 4k. If anyone is sticking their fingers in their ears it's folks like you who won't even acknowledge any of the flaws. You've consistently ignored the fact that it drops below native 4k to maintain 60 fps.

@toonarmy20: Just saying it doesn’t matter if it’s 6k if you only have a 4k. Sure maybe a little more crisp if they “fit” the image, but resolution would be lost if rendered natively in 6K for a 4k TV. You definitely are a fanboy of some sort.

@toonarmy20: I couldn’t care less of how or where you’re education was forged. You sound like you have Asberger’s sydrome, I’m no where near, or have ever been mad in this argument ?? Show me PROOF that a 4k TV can output 6K...This should be good. ??

Wow that's great, but here's the thing, I've already played the version that had/has the greatest, most clear, crisp, sharp picture, at 60fps. It's called Titanfall 2 on PS4. (rolling eyes).
