Xbox One X Pre-Orders Open Again Today, List Of "Enhanced" Titles Grows

Microsoft opens another wave of pre-orders.

Last month at Gamescom, Microsoft opened pre-orders for the Project Scorpio edition of the Xbox One X, which comes with special markings. Those consoles sold through very quickly. Today, Microsoft opened pre-orders for the standard version of the Xbox One X, so if you missed out on the first round, now you have another chance to get one.

You can pre-order one right now through Microsoft's own Microsoft Store and Microsoft.com along with many other retailers such as GameStop and Amazon.

The Xbox One X is Microsoft's fastest pre-ordered Xbox console ever. The console launches on November 7 for $500 / £449 / AU $649. It has an 8-core CPU, 12 GB GDDR 5 RAM, and six teraflops of performance, and compatible with standard-edition Xbox One games and controllers.

More than 130 games will be "enhanced" for Xbox One X, and this will continue to grow, Microsoft says. You can see a list of all of these titles here.

For lots more on how to pre-order an Xbox One X, check out GameSpot's detailed breakdown here.

Microsoft need to start announcing exclusive AAA games, doesn't matter if they are a couple of years away, just tell people whats coming, right now Sony is announcing new games every week and their console is easily on course to outsell the PS3, the same can't be said of the xbox one, the XBX will sell alot over the holiday period and outsell Sony and Nintendo for a couple of months but after that they need games to sell it.

@Runeweaver: The thing is they don't have any games this holiday to sell, but they do have the new console and battlegrounds. But the early part of the new year they (should) have Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3. So their line-up for early 2018 looks decent.... but what's after that?

I don't think so. I don't think it will outsell Switch. But let's see how many sheep are actually out there. I think you'll be surprised

@blood-souls: Nintendo can't produce enough to outsell Microsoft over the holiday period. And there are enough Fanboys to sell a few million in November and December alone, and just because Microsoft win for a few months doesn't mean a major comeback, just means the people who want the system have it, after that they need to win new customers, which needs new games not slightly improving old ones, because most people don't ever go back to old games once finished.

@Runeweaver: Oh yeah i am aware of the """""fact""""" Nintendo can't produce enough to outsell competition. And i'm still saying that what they produce will be enough to outsell. I am also saying that big part of the talk about holiday shortages is coming from Nintendo to make their console more desirable. They will surprise you. Let's see what happens.

@blood-souls: It could be Nintendo are holding back their console slightly to make it more desirable, but its more likely they can't get enough screens due to the limited amount of rare earth that is produced each year for flat screens and companies like Samsung and Apple taking the lion share of it.

Due to less hardware competition later in the year I wonder if it is possible if the X box One X will sell better out of the gate than even the X box One did when it launched. Nintendo launched their new console earlier in the year and Sony is still hush or just doesn't see the need yet to introduce a new console into the race. But then again a lot of people view the X box One X as more of an upgrade in the same way PS4 users look at the PS4pro so one might say it would be rather silly to expect it to sell anywhere even remotely close to its predecessor.

@videogameninja:I agree. Two key simple words that i repeat over and over again. CHECKERBOARD RENDERING! This is why Sony will wait and why it makes sense.

We aren't quite in the era of 4K gaming just yet. In fact, we're barely at the cusp. The games haven't quite caught up to the improved console hardware, and that hardware itself needs to get even better before "true" 4K gaming becomes commonplace.

There are currently no big jumps Sony and Microsoft's marketing would like you to believe. Using the new, more powerful hardware isn't mandatory. Developers can use it if they want, or not, depending on their preference (or more likely, their development budget). They can also pick and choose, adding additional rendering resolution upping the frame rate, or adding in things like HDR or better anti-aliasing.

For example as you know Xbox One S can't do "true" 4K gaming at all -- you're only getting an upconversion of Xbox One games. Sony says the PS4 Pro is technically capable of native 4K gaming, but most titles do not reach that maximum resolution. It renders most games at a lower resolution and upconvert to 4K. This is something consoles have done from the beginning.

In other words, the rendering resolution of a game is different from its output resolution.

Say you're playing CODBLOPS 9: Mission to Maui. The console creates everything in the world you see. The trees, the ocean, the mai-tais, everything. The process of creating a game on-the-fly is called rendering, and it takes a lot of processing power. Once you start throwing in angry seagulls and weaponized seals (the flappy kind), the limited hardware in the console starts to chug.

Most game designers want to keep the frame rate smooth (so you don't get choppy motion). They also don't want to reduce the number of items in the world. The solution is to reduce the rendering resolution. So instead of 1,920x1,080 pixels (1080p), the game is rendered at, perhaps, 1,600x900. Then, a separate upconverter makes sure your TV still gets 1080p, even though the game is really a lot less.

This was one of the worst kept secrets in gaming, since pretty much every console does it. One of the best things about the PS4 and Xbox One was the promise of true 1080p gaming, since we hardly ever got that with the earlier PS3 and Xbox 360.

Now we'll see the same thing with 4K. A game could be rendered at 1,920x1,080 (or more), but output at 3,840x2,160 (4K). How big of a difference will we see between upconverted-4K and true-4K games? Again, it depends on the game. If the textures, which are essentially the wallpaper used to cover the frames and structures in the game, are 4K resolution, then the upconverted version won't look as detailed as a native 4K version. If the textures are lower resolution, then the upconverted version might look a little better than the same game running at 1080p on the base PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, but the difference won't be drastic.

Textures can be upconverted, but you can't upconvert is the polygons, which comprise the frame and structure of what you see in the game. So while the edges of upconverted games might be sharper than 1080p, the game won't look more "real."

Now please don't get me started on microchips -state and prices of those.

Don't expect PS5 before 2020

@sellingthings: Jesus Christ. Another one with great attention span. No i didn't miss the pro. Did YOU miss the part where i was saying Sony says the PS4 Pro is technically capable of native 4K gaming, but most titles do not reach that maximum resolution?

@blood-souls: It's not even just resolution, can you really call something true 4K if it's hitting that resolution number while having to take hits in other graphics departments and frame-rates? It's something the xb1x console only club don't seem to get. Personally I don't even think PC is at the 4K era just yet, You're still having to go into the sli department and drop £1500 on graphics cards alone, it's why I've been holding off, and holding off until I am happy there is a single GPU that can consistently hit that "True 4K, 60fps" target before I do a 4K build, maybe others will disagree and are happy to take hits here or there, personally I think do it right or don't do it at all.

@sellingthings: I agree, you have to learn to walk before you can run, all I'm really saying is 4K not really here yet on any platform and I think the likes of the xb1x would have been better off going for something like 1440p 60fps and improving graphics settings, rather than stretching to try and hit 4k simply because we can do 4K(sort of) has a better ring to it. Personally that's what I would prefer if I was buying one.

@videogameninja: ps4pro was just released last year. The next device from sony amd Microsoft will be a portable playstation 4 and xb1 with the same power as the originals. This will cover all levels for their devices.

@chiefwiggum16: slim chance Sony might try again, but its highly unlikely Microsoft will, they need to concentrate their effort on selling the Xbox, which likely means putting money into exclusive games, not into a handheld device.

@chiefwiggum16: Wont happen, Sony is investing in VR so wont risk money on another project that is unlikely to improve their share of the console market, remember they are already winning by a massive margin, Microsoft is about to release the XoX which is already a risk so late in the gen, they wont take another, even if their CEO wanted too Microsoft is controlled by its shareholders and they wont let it happen, not unless Microsoft regains some of its market share from last gen, and Nintendo has proven they wont be beaten when it comes to handhelds for decades now, so its a risk the others can't afford, maybe next gen they will all release Hybrid systems, but then there is the problem of the limited supply of rare earths needed, so its still very unlikely.
