Xbox Series X Showcase Event: Every Game Shown, From Halo To Fable

Microsoft featured Halo Infinite and a ton of new game premieres during its Xbox Series X event on July 23.

Microsoft held its July 23 Xbox Series X games event, and it featured a ton of game news. Unlike the May presentation that was devoted exclusively to third-party games, this event focused heavily on Xbox Series X games from Microsoft's own studios, including the reveal of gameplay for launch title Halo Infinite, plus announcements for new Forza and Fable games. Every single game shown will be available through Xbox Game Pass, although some questions have emerged about whether some--like the aforementioned Fable and Forza games--will be exclusive to Xbox Series X and PC. There's still a lot to learn about these games and Xbox Series X as a whole, which, as expected, did not get a release date or price, but for now you can get a full rundown on the Xbox event below.

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite was the first game shown during the Xbox Games Showcase. Narrated by Cortana--or possibly Dr. Halsey--as we see the Master Chief's armor constructed, the teaser led directly into a Halo Infinite gameplay demo. It featured the same pilot that we saw in the teaser at E3 2019, with the Master Chief crashing for an emergency landing. The Banished have taken over the ring world and the heroes will need a slipspace drive to leave. A new grappling hook and a few new weapons were also on display. 343 wants this game to be the platform for the next 10 years of Halo rather than stick to numbered installments. Multiplayer hasn't been shown yet, but 343 said we could expect that as we get closer to launch. We'll also likley learn how it connects to Halo 5: Guardians, though the developer says it will also be a great entry point for newcomers.

Now Playing: Xbox Games Showcase Livestream With Pre and Post Show (July 2020)

Fable

Fable is finally back, and as rumors suggested, it's being developed by Playground Games of Forza Horizon fame. The game was premiered with a small fairy who resembled Tinkerbell as she flew into a magical world, but she was quickly eaten by an enormous toad. It looks like the series' dry humor is fully intact.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 will be set in Iceland and is built using Unreal Engine 5. Gameplay was not shown, but the development journey will be chronicled on Ninja Theory's YouTube channel.

Avowed

Obsidian's next large-scale role-playing game was shown during the event. A dark game that features skeleton enemies and a first-person perspective, Avowed premiered during the event with a trailer and also makes use of magical abilities. No release date was given, but it is promised as an "expansive" RPG and is being built from the ground up to take advantage of Xbox Series X.

Forza Motorsport

Turn 10 Studios is early in development on its next Forza Motorsport title, and it was premiered with an in-engine trailer. As expected, it looks to be a near-photorealistic racing game that makes the most of Xbox Series X technology.

State of Decay 3

Undead Labs premiered State of Decay 3 during the Xbox Games Showcase. The next entry in its open-ended zombie survival series looks to be just as dark, and the teaser we saw focused on a survivor scouting through the wilderness until she comes upon an undead deer.

CrossfireX

The CrossfireX campaign premiered during the showcase, and it was co-developed with Remedy Entertainment. It appears to contain some of the psychological and character-driven elements of the studio's previous games, but it also retains the intense first-person shooting gameplay from the free-to-play multiplayer portion. It's coming later this year.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

An Xbox console launch exclusive, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide was revealed during the presentation and looks to have extremely high production values. A recon squad has been sent into a hive in order to squash some sort of unrest, but they quickly find the situation is worse than anticipated. It's coming in 2021.

Phantasy Star Online 2

Another console launch exclusive, this time from Sega, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis includes a new world to explore and action-packed combat. The expansion is coming in 2021.

Medium

Previously revealed at an earlier event, Medium was showcased during the showcase. We got a sense of the mysterious events that seemed to take place before the game began, ending in a gunshot. The nightmare scenario can be lived by the titular Medium who seems to be looking for a way to change history.

The Gunk

Developed by the creators of SteamWorld, The Gunk was announced as an Xbox console launch exclusive. Unlike some of the developers' previous games, this one is set in a fully 3D environment and the titular Gunk appears to be a collectible resource. The landscape can grow and change in an instant, but there are dangerous enemies that don't want you there.

Tetris Effect: Connected

Tetris Effect is finally coming to Xbox as Tetris Effect: Connected, and it's bringing multiplayer to make the experience even better. What hasn't changed are the gorgeous visuals and emotional soundtrack, as well as the series' classic gameplay. With your friends' boards right by yours, however, it could get more frantic. It's out this holiday season

Stalker 2

Launching exclusively on Xbox platforms, Stalker 2 is finally real. Set in the irradiated area of Chernobyl made infamous by the nuclear disaster, the long-awaited sequel features heavy science-fiction elements. Creatures are shown growing in underground labs and one brave explorer ventures into the unknown.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 continues to get even bigger, and if you want an easier to play, you will have it soon. Xbox Game Pass will support Destiny 2 on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and mobile via the cloud. The new version of the game on Xbox Series X will support 4K and 60 frames per second, and the expansions will also be included via Xbox Game Pass.

Psychonauts 2

Jack Black is featured in Psychonauts 2, and the actor will also be letting his golden pipes do some work by singing in the game. He stars as a golden Navi-like wisp but keeps his signature deep voice for his songs. This is just one of the new characters Raz will encounter in the game, which had cut content returned back to the game after Microsoft's acquisition of Double Fine Entertainment.

As Dusk Falls

Independent studio Interior/Night debuted its game As Dusk Falls during the presentation. The game spans a 30-year period in the American Southwest and focuses on family and sacrifice. It uses a watercolor-like art style, and is described as an "interactive drama.

Grounded

Another Obsidian project that was previously unveiled, Grounded is like if Honey, I Shrunk the Kids were turned into a game. The simulation game will have you and your friends trying to survive in a backyard plagued by bugs that can eat you alive. You'll need to work together to survive, or you can betray them and survive on your own. Grounded is out July 28 in Xbox Game Preview.

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is getting new content in the form of a DLC chapter. Peril on Gorgon adds more danger and mysterious corporate intrigue to Obsidian's role-playing game, and it will be out on September 9.

Tell Me Why

Dontnod Entertainment showed off Tell Me Why during the presentation, and the sibling story will focus on the relationship between a girl and her brother. The two are getting visions whenever they get emotional, and it appears to have thrown a wrench in their understanding of the past and their upbringing. The first chapter is out August 27.

Everwild

Rare's Everwild was also shown during the presentation, and it looks to be a tranquil and unique game with a gorgeous color scheme. Enormous creatures roam the world, but they don't appear to be hostile--or at least not all of them are. Some of these creatures appear to be on the brink of death, and humans work to revive them.

Balan Wonderworld

Yuji Naka appeared during the pre-show with Square Enix to premiere his Balan Company division's new project. The action game Balan Wonderworld makes use of a single button to perform several different abilities. Your action changes depending on the costume you're wearing. It supports 24 languages and will be on Xbox One and Series X with Smart Delivery.

Hello Neighbor 2

Hello Neighbor 2 was announced during the pre-show with a look at gameplay featuring a mysterious bird-like creature. The game expands on the systems from the first game and will feature more advanced AI and more areas to explore. You'll be able to visit the surrounding environments for even more horror potential. It's coming to Xbox and PC in 2021.

Echo Generation

A gorgeous adventure game made by a smaller studio in Ontario Canada, CocoCucumber's Echo Generation was shown during the pre-show. It uses a card system for battling and has a unique aesthetic that almost resembles voxel art.

Watch Dogs: Legion

We got a new look at Watch Dogs: Legion during the pre-show, and it focused on the permanent death mechanic. A super-spy is immediately killed and DedSec must look to other London citizens in order to replenish their ranks.

ExoMecha

TwistedRed revealed a new first-person shooter called ExoMecha during the pre-show, and it looks to be an action-packed game that mixes vehicular combat with battles against enormous weapon-wielding mechs. There are even fire-breathing mechanical creatures and it will be free when it arrives later this year.

Dragon Quest 11 S

Dragon Quest 11 is coming to Xbox and will be available on Xbox Game Pass. This is the first time the series has even come to an Xbox platform. It appears to be mostly unchanged from previous versions, and it even includes the retro mode that turns the game into a retro-style RPG. It will launch on December 4

Streams Setting Stage For Fall Launch

Typically, Microsoft would hold an event like its first-party games showcase as part of a larger E3 press conference in June, but E3's cancellation due to COVID-19 meant it had to pivot to something else. PlayStation had already decided not to participate in E3 before its full cancellation, and it instead held a PS5 reveal event in June. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have announced an exact release date or price for the PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Xbox Series X will launch this holiday season and features Halo Infinite as a launch game. The game will also release on Xbox One and PC, with all three versions supporting cross-platform play. It will be the first time a core Halo game has ever released on more than one platform at the same time.

I really don't get the hate for this event honestly. While it didn't convince me to get a console day 1, there's some good looking games for Xbox. Fable, Avowed, Halo, Everwild, Hellblade 2, SOD3, Forza, and The Medium. This is a very solid lineup of games that rivals what PS5 has lined up so far. But both events suffered the same problems: not enough gameplay and release dates.

So was that the "optimized for the Series X" version of Halo Infinite??? LOL

I thought they were trying to bring back the 360 for a second....

But now it seems like they are backpedaling on their cross-gen business model, with several first party games lacking the Xbox one tag

@kutraz:They aren't backpedaling, because in no way did they ever say the cross-gen model was permanent for XB1 (I will expand on this in the 5th paragraph). Xbox One will have "forwards-compatibility" -- XBSX games "whittled down" for it -- whilst some "next-gen" titles will really be XB1 titles souped up for XBSX (i.e. "backwards-compatible"). This cross-gen back & forth would last for about "two years" regardless, according to Spencer. Ofc, this does not take into account the nature of the PC market.

Smart Delivery itself isn't guaranteed for 2nd-party titles, let alone 3rd-party, as MS did say that they'll leave SD up to the developers. FYI, 2nd-party games are published by the console manufacturer, but developed by external studios -- some of those games aren't even owned by the publisher, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. If you look at Microsoft's current slate, a franchise IP like Ori is ostensibly NOT owned by Xbox Game Studios / Microsoft itself, and neither is its developer Moon Studios.

You're probably wondering why any manufacturer/proprietor would bother with second-party classification? Well, Halo, Gears, and a myriad of Sony and Nintendo franchises started out as 2nd-party. Many, if not most, graduate to first-party when either the proprietors purchase the developer studio (e.g. Sony buying Guerrilla Games), or buy the full rights to the IP itself (as with the case of Halo and Gears). 2nd-party is "safer" to invest in, I guess.

Sometimes publishers contract out development to an external studio; doing so makes a game second-party by default. It could be that the developer has a very close relationship to the publisher, like Rare and Squaresoft (Square-Enix) once had with Nintendo (and Square would later get into bed with Sony). Lastly on this sub-topic, some 2nd-party titles are "freed" and become third-party multiplatforms, such as Final Fantasy -- but AFAIK much of that franchise would still be considered "third-party exclusive." Misappropriation of the "third-party" concept, and the fluctuating nature of developer-publisher relationships -- especially as to who owns who -- is why you almost never see "second-party" talked about today.

As anyone should've noticed: some of those titles -- particularly Avowed, and Forza Motorsport (even though FM is a year overdue) -- won't be released until after 2021 by any reasonable estimate. Avowed release date is unclear, but Obsidian Ent. would not have really started working on it until they got greenlit by MS, after their purchase in 2018. Thus, they would've had less than two years to really work on that game, so far. Forza is a different story... it really should be done by early 2021, but Spencer flat-out said during yesterday's showcase that the game is "in early development." So who the heck knows when it'll come out... 2022?

Other titles are "console launch exclusives", and it is ambiguous as to whether these are launching on/with Series X, or, if they will be timed exclusive to Xbox One / XB Series X when the game launches (and not Series X itself). There was no guarantee that timed exclusives would be part of Smart Delivery. Timed Exclusives should just die, tbh. I can wait 6 months to a year, but any longer than that and they may as well make it permanent... If shorter than that, then the exclusivity is ineffectual and pointless!

Jason Schreier & Alanah Pearce also pointed these things out, apparently, during interviews or article think pieces, and clarifications were made by Aaron Greenberg and other Xbox execs.

@Jarrkha:

Aaron Greenberg tweeted;

"Future 1P titles are developed for Xbox Series X first. Not saying those games won’t ship on Xbox One, only that we are leading with Series X & each studio will decide what's best for their game/community when they launch."

So now its up to the studio to decide???

But this contradicts what Matt Booty stated,

"As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices," Booty explains. "We want to make sure that if someone invests in Xbox between now and (Series X) that they feel that they made a good investment and that we're committed to them with content."

Which one is it???

Kind of hard to make a purchase on the console when we don't have a clear picture

Also, you didn't answer my initial question,

Was that really the "optimized for the Series X" version of Halo Infinite???

My condolences to all the Xbox cross-gen supporters..

Worse than expected

@kutraz:

I know I wrote verbosely, going into too much detail to explain a tidbit, but hopefully I was clear about backpedaling on Smart Delivery's ostensible availability. To me, there was a distinction implicit within your post, regarding what they initially touted for "Smart Delivery." Remember, when paragraphing, the author at least partially disconnects the subtopic from one paragraph to the next. As such, you seemed to me to have argued about both the quality of SD and its timeline (life cycle). If you didn't intend that, then I inferred it because I was pre-loaded into talking about the latter for other reasons (i.e. the PR surrounding SD is regarding its availability and less its implementation). So it was that to which I specifically addressed. It didn't even occur to me until now as to whether you were talking about the quality of Smart Delivery.

Personally, I don't think it will optimized be initially, as it was delayed in development whilst being designed from the ground-up for Xbox One (X) -- twice if you include the switch from UE4 to Slipspace Engine. Anyone should know that. However, what the hell do we know? PS4/XB1 to PS5/XBSX cross-gen jumping is an entire different ball park to the cross-gen and other forms of "porting" that has come before (e.g. PS2/PS3 ports, XB360/XB1 ports, even just XB360/PS3 or XB1/PS4 to cutting edge cards on PC). This time around, jumping from current-gen to next-gen within a title is ostensibly quantum leap -- PS4 Pro and XBO X included -- but they're catering for that, especially Xbox, which apparently has a dev kit and OS very much in line with XB1.

However, you have to remember what Smart Delivery entails: the best possible version for whatever hardware you own. Ideally, this means a game, particularly first-party, would be ideally optimized for anything. This article is a recent one which explains what I am talking about now, and what I said before about "being left up tot he developers." It's not the only place I read such things, but I'm too lazy to search my browser history for the rest.

I'm also sorry I couldn't bring up Phil Spencer's tweets, but I hate Twitter and don't count on it as the place to get updates. However, I would encourage you to look up the first set of his tweets (and related official ones) following the Cyberpunk 2077 surprise announcement as the first "Smart Delivery" third-party game. (Twitter is only good for porn, btw).

Regardless, we didn't even see a current demo build of Halo Infinite, and I knew right away that it wasn't running on a Series X, even if I had expected it to, because I postured before the showcase that it would be more spectacular (literally a spectacle) for Microsoft to showcase XBOX ONE X graphics and then reveal what the Series X version would look like. They didn't do that, and just used a good PC for the demo; perhaps the employee who recorded the gameplay didn't have one of the "three" or "four" types of Series X dev kits on hand, due to work-from-home rules. (I should really get a job in this industry, though perhaps not on the journalism side).

I'm a little worried in general, for other reasons, but I am not really that disappointed either. I know Smart Delivery has a limited scope, and that scope is also time-limited. I've known that since February, when they all started writing articles about it. So I'm comfortable with what I saw even if it still hasn't enticed me to buy a next-gen Xbox, especially with my Xbox One X being less than two years old.

@Jarrkha:

-Greenberg's Response to Halo Infinite Graphics Controversy-

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-infinite-graphics-will-get-better-and-better-/1100-6480138/

"Listen, we're in the middle of a global pandemic," Greenberg explained. "It's July, we're far from [launch in] Holiday, you're seeing a work-in-progress game."

"Go back and look at the game at 4K/60, we did that deliberately," he continued. "It's very hard to show the full power and graphic [sic] fidelity of what Xbox Series X will be able to deliver for you over a stream."

"The other thing I'll just say is: it is a work-in-progress," Greenberg continued. "I can tell you, because we see build check-ins every week, and they make progress week after week, so between now and Holiday it's just going to get better and better."

Not Greenberg's words but still, "The demo was also not reportedly running on the Xbox Series X, with PCGamesN reporting that the demo was instead captured on a PC with a target specification like that of the next-gen console."

Back to Greenberg, "That said, I thought it looked great, I thought it sounded great," he concluded.

So in conclusion, Greenberg's thoughts about how bad Halo looks are:

1. It's an "early build", even though the game releases in about 4- 5 months. Makes it sound like it's 2 years away.

2. The stream quality was a little bit too blurry to notice how amazing it actually looks like. LOL

3. The demo was captured on a PC with a target specification like that of the next-gen console. This doesn't help their case one bit, it looked awful and it was running on a series X equivalent...

4. Lastly, he doesn't agree and thought it looked great. In other words, we can't do much about it at this point, so shut it.

After this, I am REALLY excited to see more "optimized for series X" games!!!

BTW, probably get your ideas sorted out in your head prior to typing out a reply. That way, you don't end up getting too "verbose" with your writing. Reading your replies feels like I am in the middle of a conversation you were having with yourself while looking in the mirror

@kutraz:

You're already being spared the longer story about/from me, but, sure, it would behoove me to do as you advise before I write (which I mostly do already). However, I think you could benefit from doing the following things after you've finished writing (before posting): recalling the process of discourse; the implications, and implementations, of tone and style; and removing unnecessary sarcasm, guff or ridicule. Overall, it feels like I'm responding to a first-draft post, but tbf to you it doesn't seem like a knee-jerk reaction. (My posts are often not 1st-draft, knee-jerk, or tone-deaf, btw).

Anyway, I had already watched/read a bunch of interviews (and said as much), some reluctantly, even that Alanah Pearce interview with Greenberg. Specifically re: 4K/60 claims, I do have doubts and I'd take raw graphical assets over UHD any day of the week, but UHD can still make cruddy graphics look a little better (see XB1X enhanced backwards-compat ports). But I'm also not fussy about the next-gen thing, anyway. I just have nothing better to do atm than help people calm down, and/or share insight.

On some forums people are flabbergasted enough (by the "cartoony" graphics of Halo) that they can't even get past bemoaning it, let alone scrutinize MS's statements regarding any of the Smart Delivery titles. Regardless, having a cursory look at the history of cross-genlaunch titles should deter any hope of initial quantum leaps forward in gfx.

I'm sure at least some major media outlets had beaten much of the fan scrutiny to the punch, anyway, as I've probably already said. Thus, if one would combine media remarks and marketing out there--whether for or against the showcase--it's not exactly a guarantee that the arbitrary fan would be hyperbolic when disparaging, or extolling, Halo Infinite's reveal.

TLDR:

There's a bunch of people who were mad for a compound reason: they felt mislead, partly due to misinformation (which can also imply misunderstanding), but saw that other scrutineers were cynical enough not to be. If you feel that way, then please don't project that on me. If I offended you initially, say so, and don't let it simmer. I am at a crossroads here too, you know; I could upgrade to Series X since my PC is outdated, but if games are also "optimized" for the old stuff, then I might be convinced to settle for less anyway -- even for the next two years.

Look man you've been a good sport. but the fact that you said,

"I just have nothing better to do atm than help people calm down, and/or share insight."

Might have a lot to do with your "wordy" replies. I can only assume so much but your replies are a damn good example of what people refer to as "trying too hard". Not even for my master's thesis would this degree of rambling have been appropriate. I have to fish out what your points are. The unnecessary SAT words don't help at all but even then, I feel like you are jumping from one point to another without any real tie. Assuming again, but if you are some kind of frustrated writer, I recommend going past commenting on video game forums to get relief. I don't know, start a book, join a poetry club, try to land a news gig, etc.

In regards to what seems to be your point, I think Microsoft is pushing for a cross-gen model because they are the least popular console going into this new generation. Not because they can deliver the best version of the game for its respective hardware. The demo was running on a Series X equivalent PC and it looks god awful.

Food for thought, how much money do you think Xbox would lose if they released halo game for only next-gen? Taking into account that most of the gaming market share doesn't make the jump to the new hardware, initially. Also, taking into account the money a first-party game requires? I mean, you need to get a return on an investment of that size. And lastly, considering how popular the Halo franchise is for Xbox?

The game has been in development for about 5 years, but somehow the 3-4 months they have left before distribution (Halo for Holiday 2020, remember?) will be enough time for a night and day positive transformation.....

@kutraz:

How much money would MS lose if they didn't make Halo cross-gen?

I think we'd first have to examine how much money is gained from the various GP subs from current-gen Xbox One (basic subscription or the combined ultimate).

They want or need Game Pass to be console platform-agnostic, so if they wanted to "force" gamers to buy next-gen, then they'd ultimately have to drop one of the main Game Pass selling points: making their first- and second-party games available through it as soon as they launch. Game Pass is probably doing quite well for them -- 10 million subs at minimum $12 CAD p/month is an est. "average" of $120M per month (long-term calculations are dependent on the subscriptions retained from month-to-month, ofc). Thus, if they didn't enforce cross-gen availability, they ostensibly could lose a lot of money if they just enforced it on a single generation. That's in addition to revenue lost from actual purchases, in this scenario.

Game Pass's ubiquity, especially when combined with Smart Delivery, is how they want to entice people to make the next-gen jump to begin with; the prospective consumer is basically starting out a new generation with a massive library at an already-paid cost (or a low ongoing cost). The old-school way, where publishers "force" everyone to make double purchases for games getting ported to next-gen, is directly being addressed with this strategy. They may in fact not gain as much revenue in the short-term, but we save on our investments, and could possibly convert.

Also, Aaron Greenberg is talking out of his ass (re: the PC demo build) -- which is a tendency with immediate oversimplified responses towards immediate half-understood criticism, btw. Some nuances were not given due consideration, IMO. But that's another tale for another day.

I’m going to be real with you man but I did not finish reading your reply

Assuming again but the fact that your responses are this long and word-heavy probably means that you didn’t type them on the go. This is not a bad thing but would make them fall under "trying too hard" for a video game forum, in my opinion.

There is no set rules for commenting on Gamespot but I can assure you that everything you said can be reduced significantly. There is no need to ramble on and on before every point you state.

I said it already but it feels like you are looking for someone to lend an ear. It honestly feels like you are having a conversation with yourself and I just happen to be standing next to “both” of you.

Good luck and take care

@kutraz: With all due respect, your psychoanalysis is at least somewhat incongruous with the real "criticism"; it doesn't really track with lack of grammar finesse associated with my writing, nor my preference to suss out N-sides in a "controversy."

I already mentioned before that you were in danger of ad hominem attacks (no matter how polite the tone). These invariably deflect the issue at hand.

I had also said, in the now-deleted personal stuff, that I only brought up verbosity as an excuse to make a "pseudo-apology" to you, in order to control the situation away from flame wars. I don't think I'll apologize for anything else (even if you aren't asking for one), because I am not projecting issues unto you.

You're spending your days writing a highly technical graduate thesis to impress professionals/academics, who can break your career before it begins. But that wouldn't stop you from writing a minimum amount to cover all your bases -- or to expand upon a new thought and thereby grow your paper -- so why would it stop me, writing as a layman to another layman?

And for the record, I think Halo Infinite looks ok. Getting it on Game Pass on XB1X by default, so no skin off my back.

Pretty weak list.... Most the games you can play already on the regular versions. Sigh

@sammoth72: Perhaps, but what would you think about being insulting towards people expressing (severe) criticism, even if said criticism is weakly argued or inadvertently insulting in and of itself? What your post is to his, is what I describe. It's just as unnecessary to point out.

I think it would behoove people of all manner of ideologies to stop treating "negativity" with a ten-foot pole, as if it belongs in a quarantine. It's certainly how the too-broad metaphor of "toxicity" came about.

@sammoth72: " I'm not the buthurt fanboy having to post negative stuff on a website".

Really? I think that's exactly what you are. Below are just a couple of your posts from the past few days. Would these be the "negative stuff" you were referring to?

-"I would love to insult you but I’m afraid I won’t do it as well as nature did."

AND:

-"Are you naturally this dumb, or are you putting in extra effort?'

So yeah, you were saying?

@sammoth72: I never made any claims about being righteous, I own my posts. You should do the same, as opposed to making excuses and claiming that you don't post anything negative.

@sammoth72: As a general rule of thumb:

- never feed the trolls

- recognize what trolls actually are; they are NOT dissenters of any sort and are entirely characterized by one of two things:

(1) whether they are rattling the cage for the sake of it; causing mischief for kicks

(2) the manner of their comport, i.e., are they being assholes

Troll is such a misappropriated term -- in terms of context -- but no matter how it is used, the intent behind it doesn't change, and thus people are giving themselves "carte blanche" to vilify others with nastiness. I wouldn't even really condone vilification with politeness or politically-correct tonality.

As Ghandi once said, "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." You really going to poke out his eye because he's poked out someone else's? Justice doesn't work like that.

@sammoth72: No, the problem is that you called someone a butthurt fanboy, and claimed in the EXACT SAME SENTENCE that you don't post anything negative on this site. And I'm the hypocrite? LOL!

I don't care that you called someone a butthurt fanboy. I wouldn't have said a single word to you about it if you didn't have the audacity to act like you were above saying negative things to people, (when I saw you dogging on people in another thread as well).

There have been plenty of times people have called me out for talking shit. And if they have the right of it, then I own those comments. It keeps me honest.

I'm just keeping you honest.

@sammoth72: Thank you, you just proved my point for me. You call me sad and pathetic for looking at your comment history, but then you looked at my comment history as well. Interesting that you keep insisting that I'm the hypocrite here. Again, I never made a claim that I haven't posted anything negative on this site. THAT would make me a hypocrite, (and an outright liar).

I've said my peace here. It doesn't make a lot of sense to escalate with someone who is unable to acknowledge their own behaviors.

I definitely enjoyed the Xbox presentation more than Playstation. I will buy Series X! Halo, The Medium, Avowed, Hellblade 2, and Warhammer just for starters! Nice.

@soulcrusher777: Sony's was far better. This showcase was just as bad as xbox's last one

@psychomantisiii: No, there was nothing "far" better about either showcase. They treated the damned things like E3 stage show presentations, and even Sony predicated itself just as much on second/third-party slates (which irks other people; not really me, per se).

This was a good opportunity to spread the showcases out and do deep-dives into gameplay, for launch titles. Instead, what we got was cinematic nonsense (because VERY FEW people in games marketing know how to edit and cut trailers -- the KH3 trailers are the epitome of nonsensical cuts).

@noctis_lucis_caelum: the key to success is the whole package, which as a corollary, entices a stronger third-party backbone. Third-party games -- even THIRD-party exclusives -- are the red meat of a library, the chunk of the meal which fills one's belly; whereas first-party and 2nd-party games (naturally exclusive) are just the attractive smell and whatever else entices one to sit at the table.

I'm hungry, so I'm using a meal analogy.

Iam a huge playstation exclusives fan , and i gotta say i wasnt as bad as people paint it to be , iam pre ordering a ps5 and if microsoft slate of shown games is close to launch i may start subbing to game pass on my pc , but nothing of what was shown convinced me to buy a series x

Most of Microsoft studios are still in infancy and are still proving themselves , nothing wrong about that , so lets wait and see the gameplay of all those announced games when we get closer to launch

As for Halo Infinite, this is typicsl MS failure to catch our attention , most of us forgot about it 2 or 3 trailers after it was shown , bad graphics , no unique gunplay , hell destiny looks better and plays better

@afromakka: What does that fandom mean though? Do you seriously play most or all of what they have to offer? Are you implying those are all that's worth devoting one's time to on the PlayStation ecosystem?

@Jarrkha: yep they are definitely worth it , even the smaller ones like ConcreteGenie , Resogun, Gravity Rush and many more

I know there are many misses like The Order and i for one dont like the uncharted series .. hell i HATE uncharted but they produce masterfully crafted new IP's like the recent Ghost of Tsushima and HZD

And tbh i wanna play the sequels to spiderman , hzd , days gone and god of war

As for xbox i cant wait to see Everwild and Avowed gameplay

And both companies have awesome 3rd party launch exclusives

Oh lets not forget returnal and demon souls

@afromakka: It was a disappointment, honestly. I left with no reason to buy an Xbox next gen. I was looking forward to having av reason to buy one, but I think I'll just build a PC instead

Given that Phil said the aim of this event was to show the breadth of games coming to the Xbox platform i think they did a good job... yeah sure there were some rough edges, but they showed a variety of genres...RPGs, Shooters, Racers, Adventures, Platformers.

Regarding Halo, yeah course its not ready.. popping and missing textures etc, however regardless of this i am looking forward to playing Infinate as i thought the gameplay looked slick, and the weapons had impact.. being able to use the Grapple Hook to grab objects (including enemies), Brutes can pick up and throw Grunts and likely other features we have yet to see.

To be honest though, knowing that Infinate is not ready, i think 343 would have been better delaying the game until all the niggles have been ironed out and bells and whistles have been added (Textures, Raytracing etc) and they are able to show the game on an actual Series X console (as the demo was run on a PC).

It was a good showing. Traditionally sony fans once again commenting on a console they were NEVER going to buy anyway...smh. I don't get the obsession with console wars...MS does not care about selling consoles, because it dosen't make money. They are taking a totally different approach. The PS5 should be a good console also. It's about time that people just play what they want and stfu...

@alucard1001: Typical xbots saying anything that Microsoft does is automatically good. It was a disappointment, honestly. There's no way around it.

Also there will always be a console war, because the companies keep it going. If Microsoft didn't care about selling consoles, they wouldn't have tweeted about the series X getting the best version of games after Sony's showcase. Microsoft says things but ends up contradict themselves. They're willing to undercut the ps5 in price. They congratulated Sony on their stream, but they promote the series x as the most powerful and best system to play on after immediately after. It's the companies that established and kept the war going

@alucard1001: I'm a "sony fan" but I also buy everything. I'll say gamepass is god , and because I have a solid gaming pc, I'll be ready to play some solid games shown above. Especially fable. However I think they showed alot in its infancy, correct me if I'm wrong but the only thing that seems like I'll play in the next year is halo. Everything else seems far off. So as far as a reason for me to buy a new xbox sooner than later seems invalid. Speaking for myself of course. Rather just buy a new gen graphics card and call it a day for now until a dope special edition or something comes out

Some people thought this event was 8/10? LOL

Spencer: We will have a lot of gameplay at this event!

Me: Where was it?

The show had a few games that I might end up getting on PC including Fable, but MS still doesn't understand that more gameplay is important. They need to stop talking so much until they actually can show exciting games.
