Yakuza Spinoff Judgment Getting Remastered For PS5, Xbox Series X In April

Although Judgment takes place in the Yakuza universe, it's a separate journey with ridiculous action and hardboiled detective work.

Sega and developer RGG Studio announced that they are re-releasing Judgment--the Yakuza series spinoff that first launched in 2019 as a PlayStation 4 exclusive--for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Stadia. The game will be remastered with "refined visuals" and will run at 60 fps to take advantage of the new hardware. You also won't have to wait long; this new version is set to launch on April 23 this year for $39.99 USD.

Judgment takes place in the same universe as the Yakuza franchise but tells an entirely separate story from the mainline games. While it uses the familiar setting of Kamurocho and incorporates a few recognizable elements, such as the Tojo Clan and crime drama, you won't need an extensive Yakuza background to enjoy it. You play as a Takayuki Yagami, a disgraced lawyer turned private detective who uncovers a much larger conspiracy--it's a gripping story with a different tone from the Yakuza games but still has the same storytelling qualities.

Now Playing: Judgment - Official PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, And Stadia Announcement Trailer

The game plays much like previous Yakuza games with action brawler combat, however Yagami is a lot more acrobatic and it influences the way he fights. And Kamurocho is again a lively open city full of side quests and minigames to fill out the world. You'll do detective work as well, investigating environments to find clues and questioning key witnesses and suspects to advance the plot.

This is the latest in Sega's and RGG Studio's effort to bring the broader Yakuza franchise to more platforms with visual and performance improvements. Just last week, the Yakuza Remastered Collection came out on PC and Xbox platforms (also via Game Pass), and I covered why Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 are important games that everyone should eventually play.

Note that you can also play the original PS4 version of the game on PS5, but without next-gen improvements--Sega has said that there will not be cross-buy between PS4 and PS5 versions of the game. Although Yakuza games have been made available on PC recently, Judgment will not be getting a PC version at the moment.

Can we transfer our save games? Judgment is by far the best Yakuza game, I have all the drone parts, and unless I can keep my progress, I'm not buying it again.

Dying for LAD to be on PS5 already.

Wish they would have done what a lot of games are doing these days by making it a free upgrade to those who already bought the game previously.

Always seems like a punishment when the early adopters don't get the new goodies in these situations.

Thats great.
Wished Sega would also consider bringing Kenzan and Ishin to the west...that would be awesome.
I'd pay a full price each for a properly subbed/translated versions
Ghost of Tsushima did pretty well i think and Sega should use that oportunity to bring some(Yakuza) samurai themed games.

All Google had to do(yes the same Google that lost its domain name towards a ex Google employee for $12) was to build a phone back in 2015 similar to the Asus Rog series phone, and allow the games on the phone to share portion of cloud gaming while the servers do the heavy lifting, and selling the phone as a all access to how Sony did with the Experia (but that was a disaster, and now dead if psp is brought into the works)

Such an underrated game. It's good that it will find a larger audience now.

A PlayStation "exclusive" not so exclusive after all.

Since the ps5 released, Sony keeps losing more exclusive titles than gaining.

Well maybe the PS6 would have better luck.

@johnny0779: Not really much to do with Sony as much as third parties are seeing how much money they're leaving on the table from not doing simple port jobs of finished products.

@johnny0779: Sony is not losing anything. I doubt the game sold that well. It is forgotten about all the time. Why should Sony pay Sega to keep the game exclusive when Sega is a sinking ship? Outside of the Atlus thing, The original Yakuza series and Valkyria Chronicles are the only things keeping Sega afloat as far as internal development. Most of Sega's current franchises have been outsourced to western developers.

As far as The Show is concerned, Sony still wins because the company is making money off of the sales of the Xbox version. Its own studio makes the game. If you want to consider a lost exclusive, then that is your own perception. Sony has quite a few of exclusives coming as well as the ones from studios who just finished making games. Despite system shortages, the PS5 is outselling the xbox by a good margin. This is including the price hike on first party games. Sony is selling fine. The "loss" of exclusives do not seem to be slowing sales of the console by any means. MLB the Show will most likely have stronger sales on PlayStation and the title will remain Sony centric. Until Sony starts losing steam, then the company will care.

Microsoft has bowed out of console wars, and Nintendo is focusing on the handheld market. This is the first time that each console maker is focusing on something different. Console wars are over. The only people who care about console wars are the people complaining that they cannot play a certain game because it is on a platform that they do not have.

@laurenriley3332: Sony is losing a lot because Sony is sharing sales with XBOX, Nintendo and even PC.

More choices less money per platform.

@systemoverload: Sony is the one developing the game, so the profits are not getting cut the same way a third party game would. For Example, When Square releases a game on 3 platforms, the money from sales get split four ways. Since Sony develops MLB The Show, this means that the money is only going to be split two ways. There is no Nintendo version at this time. Sony will make money off of each copy sold. I do not believe The Show moved hardware that much if at all, but I am sure with multiple streams of revenue coming in from other platforms will make up for the loss of whatever console sales the game contributed to. I doubt the game Judgment made Sony that much money anyway. It is always forgotten about, so no big loss.

Japan always purchases multiplatform games on Sony systems and never touches the Xbox version. Europe is the same way. The only market Sony needs to be worried about is North America. While it is a closer this time around, PS5 is selling more than the Xbox

Japanese games will always sell better on Sony systems than on systems made from Microsoft. Since Sony is dominating the baseball simulator market, the sales of MLB The Show will be stronger on PlayStation.
