You Can Earn Xbox Achievements On Switch With Minecraft's Upcoming Update

The Avengers ain't got nothin' on this crossover.

When Microsoft announced a big effort to unify all the versions of Minecraft and institute cross-play, it confirmed that this meant that players would sign into an Xbox Live account, even on Switch. The company has now revealed that this integration will go one step further: you'll actually be able to earn Xbox Live Achievements in the Switch version.

Microsoft told GameSpot in a statement that this will, indeed, be the case. Players will sign into an Xbox Live account and accrue Gamerscore, even in the Switch version. This will be implemented in the Bedrock Update, which has already been rolled out on Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

"We can confirm that Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will be able to earn achievements and Gamerscore tied to Xbox Live when the Bedrock update is released," Microsoft explained.

Microsoft has said in the past that the update is slated for a 2018 release on Switch, but it hasn't provided any specifics yet. Microsoft's updates to Switch have previously resulted in other interesting crossovers, such as the Master Chief skin showing up in DLC available on the Switch version.

@effinjay: If achievements would have made you stay, then I think it is for the best they haven't.

You people are ridiculous. The game is already on the Switch and you don't have to sign in. I'm certain it will be optional.

Probably one of the reasons why Sony is opposed to cross play with xbox they wouldn't let stuff like this fly.

Microsoft are seemingly getting desperate by pulling moves to try and imprint their brand/s on gamers who use other consoles.

@strmofconscious: Try to formulate a better response if you disagree with something. Your argument every time is calling people names.

@gotrekfabian: Guess when they release those Xbox Live numbers they'll include all of the Switch users playing Minecraft. Way to fluff up even more. It already counts all PC and Phone users.

@Ansem_Rev: Happy for what? The achievements system means nothing on Switch and is simply a means to advertise on another console. Wake up and smell the coffee.

@Ansem_Rev: Why should we be happy that MS is pushing their stuff on other platforms? This is just more reason for Sony to not agree to crossplay.

@darkelf83 It's literally no worse than you signing in to GameSpot to post you're stupid comment.
How is crossplay multiplayer bad?

Better yet a more accurate analogy is with FF14.
Which is also crossplay, in which you have to make a Square Enix account to play it. Doesn't matter if you're on PS3, 4, or PC.

@VoidBeyond: No. Square Enix are not a console developer which makes your argument null.

@VoidBeyond: Never said crossplay was bad, just MS pushing their platform so hard.

FFXIV is a bad analogy, I see the comparison you're trying to make. The Square Account however only gives you access to their servers for said game and isn't used in any other metric. Also it does not require PS Plus, only a PSN ID. Which could be part of why it isn't on Xbox yet. Tera is an example of no PS plus requirement but Xbox Live Gold.

@darkelf83: "just MS pushing their platform so hard." As should any company right?
