Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Gets New Patch, But We're Not Sure What It Does

Changes to the game have been made to allow for a "more pleasant gaming experience."

A new patch for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has arrived. This is the game's third update, following ones that arrived on launch day (March 3) and back on March 31.

Like the March 31 update, the patch notes for today's update (version 1.1.2) are one line long and don't get into specifics. "Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience," the patch notes say.

No Caption Provided

GameSpot booted up Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch and found that the game had been updated to version 1.1.2, the newest version.

The previous update improved frame rate in some areas, though it's unclear what exactly this newest patch does. We'll report back with more details as they're made available.

For more on Breath of the Wild, check out GameSpot's review.

Clickbait at it's finest. I was linked to this article from google. The headline they went with: "Zelda Breath of the Wild patch out now, here's what it does"

Polygon confirmed what it does. POLYGON!

Guess where I'm going for my gaming news next time....

Yeah, we know the game is good. But having played both till the end, I have to say Horizon Zero Dawn is a better game than BotW. OK I may be a bit biased by the graphics because I use a 4K HDR OLED TV for playing them.

@googleli: I played Horizon on the pro with a 4k TV and it was amazing, gameplay/mechanics/graphics. Now i'm waiting on Zelda to be shipped to me and I can't fricken wait! Hopefully I can go into with an unbiased opinion.

I take issue with Eddie calling the game an rpg. Zelda games are and always have beenaction-adventure games. Theres no stats in Zelda no levels. Why call it an rpg? So uninformed for "Gaming news".

@IanNottinghamX: Zelda games have always been very close to an RPG though. If I remember correctly, even as early as Zelda II as you progressed you had to find and earn spells and also some sword skills, which was sort of like leveling your character.

@Tomcat2007: Its like I said to someone else before, What is the games genre defined as though? It doesnt matter if Zelda 2 had rpg elements. Its an Action Adventure game. A First person shooter can have rpg elements you dont start calling it an rpg unless it leans heavily on that side of things. Do you call Uncharted an Rpg just because it has a couple of rpg like features? No! So please dont create excuses for lazy writing because the article writer should know better.

@IanNottinghamX: Actually Zelda 2 is defined as an "Action roll-playing" game. Which is why I brought up the fuzzy line between RPG's and Action-adventure games when it comes to the Zelda series. I wasn't trying to defend the article, just bring up how Zelda games are very close to being an rpg and are often confused as one. In fact I don't even see where this particular article directly called Zelda BOTW an rpg?

@Tomcat2007: "[Editor's note: The headline for this story has been updated to reflect our current understanding of the patch notes.]"

On the thumb nail there was a snippet referring to it as an rpg It no longer says what it originally said calling it an rpg.

But your missing the point trying to split hairs about Zelda 2. The fact is the series is defined as an action adventure series. Are there levels? No. Stat progression no(Breath of the wild introduced that for gear but it still goes with my point) So what if 1 or 2 iterations has or had rpg elements. I brought up the comparison to something like Uncharted, which has a couple of rpg like elements, but is an action adventure game and cant really be called anything else. There is no confusion to be had here, it was just the writers ignorance in saying it to begin with.

@Legend_of_Link: but the comments were justified. the original title implied the article was going to have information about what was in the patch but it didn't so it deserved to be called out by everybody

I've been playing on the gamepad almost exclusively. I did see a bit of a freeze but I thought that it was a week signal between the gamepad and the Wii U since I've been testing the range lately.

If the frame rate is improved even more then it'll still be great even though I haven't really experienced the issues.

I would like to defend this article. My immediate suspicion is that they may or may not have degraded the graphical quality of the game.

Might have been a good idea to change your article title to something like, "New Zelda: BotW patch has been released [Updating]"...at least then people would realize they would have to check back when the patch notes are fully released. Instead, I'm a sucker for clicking on this trap. I'm going to start ad-blocking this site bc of the click bait stuff.

eagerly awaiting a patch that lets me switch (pun intended) the function of a and b buttons - muscle memory from 15 years of playstation and xbox is driving me crazy - and if they could put sprint on the thumbstick too that would be great - sadly i doutb that patch will ever come :( whoever designed the control scheme for this game should be shot - its ruining the whole experience

Click-bait article. Honestly should have been

"Zelda has a new patch out, no details given"

You could have had the same content in the article. honestly this is bad journalism

With that said, Hopefully this patch reduces how often it rains in game because that was annoying and it really affected to flow of gameplay.

Every couple days there's a new article about BotW. "Here's how you do this", "Here's how you do that", "Look at the gear we found", "The grand reward for completionists is a piece of poop", etc. At this point there's been an article for every little mundane task. Soon it will be "Check out how to move Link in your adventures" or "Here's how you rotate the camera".

We get it, the game is good. But unless Nintendo is paying you to do this, you can stop with the pointless articles now. It's been a month...

@tomwenz: agreed...this BOTW stuff they're doing is top of the line irritating.

Thing is...I'm one of the many who feels BOTW will easily be GOTY...and a strong contender w/ Witcher 3 and a handful of other games for game of the decade and even GOAT.

But GS has been effectively ruining the game with thier articles. Who cares about surprise/discovery of thier own...just let GS and thier crappy click bait articles tell you everything that the game has to offer
