The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include the content from the Wii U and Switch original's expansion pass.

Nintendo confirmed this with GameSpot in a statement, saying, "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase." The news was first discovered by Reddit user raptormelonsite (via Nintendo Soup) , who got word from My Nintendo Store UK's support team.

Following its launch in March 2017, Breath of the Wild received two DLCs tied to its expansion pack. The Master Trials' DLC added a Trial of the Sword challenge for players to complete, Hero's Path and Master modes, a travel medallion to simplify fast travel, and more. Then, The Champion's Ballad introduced more substantial story content. In 2021, a version of Breath of the Wild containing all DLC on the game card was released in Japan.

The Switch 2 game card won't contain content from The Master Trials or Champion's Ballad, and players will have to buy the expansion pass in addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of this game. It will cost $70, which is $10 more expensive than Breath of the Wild retailed for in 2017. At the very least, we know the Switch 2 enhancements will be on Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition's game card. Those enhancements include improved resolution and frame rate as well as compatibility with a new Zelda Notes feature on the Nintendo Switch app.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches alongside the console on June 5. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscribers will gain access to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack at no additional cost if they already own Breath of the Wild.
