Nothing special...

I wasn't expecting much when I started up Urban GT 2, and it was soon evident that my assumptions had been correct. From the quite ugly GUI that presented the options to the laggy intro video, I was not impressed with how Urban GT 2 was shaping up. Despite the lack of direction that the game instantly exhibited, I jumped into a single race to gauge the quality of the racing. I picked a moderately attractive Mitsubishi, expecting the rest of the environments to share the same detail as the vehicles. But when the game loaded, I was shocked to see blurry textures abound, from the road to the scenery. Ignoring this, I began the race. Unfortunately, this didn't fare much better than the graphics. The control's are not too flimsy, but the weak steering and poor sensation of speed don't really make for an interesting drive. The AI is equally laughable, with no real abilities other than following a pre-scripted path. The lack of a handbrake reduces racing to nothing more than gas, brake, turn, and leaving no enjoyment for adrenaline enthusiasts. Overall, the game isn't abysmal, but it definitely pulls mediocre, delivering a very stock standard racing formula with nothing at all to let it stand out from the pack. A rental at best.
