Relive the Renaissance !

User Rating: 9 | Assassin's Creed II X360
A question all gamers seek to answer is: 'why do we play games'. For some its pure fun, for some its time pass.. for some others..its life. The fundamental reason you should play Assassin's Creed II is because it lets you relive Renaissance Italy, just like its previous edition let you run on rooftops of Crusade torn Jerusalem. This is perhaps the best remodeling of Italy in that period, with exquisite visual and historical detail.

If you have played the first edition with Altair, you will not find Ezio more charismatic in any way. However, the game sometimes give you breathtaking moments, especially at the end.. its difficult to avoid

***spoilers begin ***...
but if a game lets me fight the pope under the sistine chapel.. or .. ride a chariot race with leonardo da vinci beside me ....im like ..that was cool!
Okay no more
***spoilers done *** .. i promise.

As far as the story, it feels like you are in an Italy mafia war. Of course, thats not the case, the ending has major twists which will make the whole plot worthwhile. Also the "truth" is pretty cool, if you can unlock it by solving the boring puzzles. The ending does set up a great platform for the 3rd part of the game to be made, and it should be an absolute cracker.

Lots of complaints regarding AC1 revolved around the same type of missions. There is definite diversity in AC2, with different sort of missions, but most are easy to complete. The only 'same type' of missions are the assassination tomb ones, which are spread across multiple cities and but only optional. They are a rip off from Prince of Persia kind of jumping around, same mechanics, only in an Assassins clothes. The diversity in missions in nothing compared to MassEffect2 or Halo, but it is a good improvement considering the last AC.

The visual detail in design is unbelievable. Take a look at the shadows during rooftop fights and you will know. The festival in Venice is terrificly depicted. The translucent radar kind of pissed me off at times, but otherwise everything else is right up to Ubisoft's great standards. The AI is okay, sometimes interesting NPC interactions, sometimes dumb soldiers. The boss fights are a joke. Another mention: The music is simply amazing.

Why should you play Assassin's Creed 2 ? Because only the Animus can take you back to one of the most amazing period in human history, make you a super assassin and put you in a chariot race with one of the world's greatest inventors.

Story: 8/10 (the ending and "truth" video is worth 3.5 of those points)

Action: 9/10 (cinematic killings)

Visuals: 10/10 (Italian Renaissance relived )

Voice: 8/10

Music: 10/10 (Jesper Kyd. Look up this guy on Youtube)
