A fun game with some massive flaws

User Rating: 6 | Assassin's Creed Origins PC

Pros:

  • Graphics
  • Kill moves
  • Environments
  • Tons of content
  • Story kicks off with a bang
  • Cleopatra
  • Bayek is a solid protagonist

Cons:

  • Very grindy
    • Annoying to have to level up doing boring side quests in order to advance in the story
  • Story fizzles out about ⅔ of the way through
    • No reason to play as Aya. You play as her for maybe 5% of the game, but nothing takes the wind out of a story’s sails more than playing as a side character through its most pivotal moments.
    • Without getting into spoilers, important characters were under-utilized, motives were not clear (aside from the general revenge theme of course), and exposition was seriously lacking.
  • Way too many fetch quests, scavenger hunts
  • Map was huge but underutilized

Nitpickey:

  • Was not impressed by the recreation of ancient cities (Alexandria and Memphis most of all)

Rating:

  • Story ***** 5/10
  • Gameplay ******* 7/10
  • Atmosphere ******** 8/10
  • Overall ****** 6/10
