A good solid French Revolution story line makes this title a winner

User Rating: 8 | Assassin's Creed Unity (Special Edition) PC

Another year and another Assassin's Creed title to be bought and played. At least this is a full length title and not the ludicrously small Rogue title they are trying to get full retail value for on the consoles (PS3 version is 6.4GB... seriously ouch).

So as we know the premise of this year's AC is the French Revolution and follows the story of the young Arno growing up in Paris with his adopted family. It doesn't take long to find out the love of your life, the young girl you met at the start, is a Templar and you an Assassin. Interesting times ahead there.

The story has believable characters, some of which you know historically like Marie Tussaud of the Wax Museum fame (she lived to 88 which is damn impressive at that time of history), and you find you will adopt caring feelings for some which is very rare in games these days, the last being Clementine in The Walking Dead.

For the playable world, it is huge, it is a very very large Paris after all and there is plenty to find and discover. Rooftops are no longer repetitive with some having the oddest shapes and dead ends - making rooftop chasing and strategy more fun. The game's engine now makes it even more possible for large crowds everywhere, and I mean large, this also adds to the games' unforgiveness when trying to chase down and tackle people.

One thing that will take you a while to get used to is the new climbing and movement controls, they are like the similar previous controls but they are more fidgety and you will find yourself getting annoyed when trying to get in through an open window with a balcony.

Another negative is the requirements for the game, some people who have bought the previous titles and have no next gen consoles will find that they cannot run this game, which is very big shame and a potential lack of sales.

But positives are the sounds and graphics, you can tell this is Paris from it's decor and from the sounds of the crowds singing La Marseillaise reiterating that you are in the French Revolution.

And the unique co-op mode, which is great fun to play with your friends and you can even start up a clan with them so you can enjoy yourselves in the clan's secret party room.

Definitely worth a purchase and to enjoy.

8/10 - 2 points away from the requirements and some dodgy controls. (I haven't encountered the "bugs" yet myself)
