Simple platformer that's quite fun to play.
The graphics in this game look a little better and more rounded than in Asterix & Obelix. They still keep the charm that they did before and closely resemble the comic book characters. There is now a delightful 'pow' whenever you kill some enemies which adds to the overall fun feel to the game. The animation has been somewhat improved I feel, leaving a nicely flowing game.
The sound is pretty much the same style as in the last edition, with similar punching sound effects and other noises. The music however, I feel is a tad too modern sounding, but it still fits quite well and doesn't sound too out of place.
The gameplay is very simple indeed. Asterix can jump, run, and punch. That's it. The levels are quite linear which can be good and bad. Bad if you want to be able to have an explore, and good if you don't want to miss anything. Perhaps the only novel idea in the game, that is missing from Asterix & Obelix is that there are far more pickups than it. Asterix can pick up 2 types of magic potions. One makes him invincible for a short time, and the other briefly enables him to fly with his helmet. Other pickups include a bone, which calls Dogmatix (Asterix's dog) into the screen where he humourously bites an enemy's back-side and kills him, and a harp which calls Cacophonix, the village bard of sorts who cannot play very well. He causes all the enemies to freeze for a short while, making them easier to kill. It is the little things like this that make the game great fun to play.
Lastability-wise, the game is around average length, but this time there are no passwords. It shouldn't be too hard to finish if you try hard enough.
