I purchased this as a fan of the classic Asteroids and even an avid fan of the old WinRoids that came out in the late 90's. Playing the classic mode seems familiar enough and while it was my first time playing the historic game with a console controller it's fairly easy to get used to. The learning curve on this game if you've never played it before is fairly high. Levels get much harder very quickly and there's no telling whether the next alien space craft they send to blow you up is one of the larger "easy" versions or the microscopic "hard" versions. If you've never played Asteroids before I would reccomend skipping this game as it can be very frustrating to learn. You will most likely die. Alot.
The evolved version was a big, fat, flop. It's the same game as the classic with a "spacey" back drop, glowing asteroids, and huge bright explosions which do more to distact you than enhance the gameplay. Often you will have to shoot an asteroid that is very close to your ship which will consequently make you lose sight of your ship, and likely you're flying directly into an asteroid. Which sucks since you only have limited lives and don't get extra lives too easily (every 10,000 points).
In any case, I enjoyed the classic version. If this was solely the evolved version of asteroids I would have rated this a 1. Only buy this if you're a fan of the classic and just enjoy a little old fashioned asteroid beat down every once in a while.
The sound on Asteroids is a bit off and there are even sounds missing. Asteroids Deluxe was completely ruined by having the different sounds, missing sounds, no materialization effect on the ship, and NO BACKDROP! You ca... Read Full Review
