The sound on Asteroids is a bit off and there are even sounds missing. Asteroids Deluxe was completely ruined by having the different sounds, missing sounds, no materialization effect on the ship, and NO BACKDROP! You can do whatever you want in an "Evolved" version, but if you aren't going to make the "Classic" version close to perfect, why bother? People don't shell out money for these things because it just LOOKS like an old game they used to play, they buy them becuase it IS the old game they used to play.
I fired up Atari Anthology on the original Xbox to do a comparison and everything I mentioned here is perfect there. For anyone with interest in these retro arcade games, I would give the AA compilation a serious consideration before dropping 400 - 1200 points on the XBLA releases. I've been very pleased with some of the XBLA releases in the past and I expect more that what was just delivered.
