One of the best on the GBA

User Rating: 9.2 | Astro Boy: Tetsuwan Atom - Atom Heart no Himitsu GBA
The bottom line is that Astro Boy: Omega Factor is a great example of how to do a 2D action game right. Omega Factor has everything that an action game of its type should have and then goes the extra mile to give the game very solid control, variety in the gameplay experience, a well tuned difficulty, and an innovative way to progress the story.

In Omega Factor you play as the classic anime character Astro Boy who does what else but save the world. The bulk of the game is pretty straightforward where you just go through a series of levels beating up a relentless supply enemies and mini-bosses followed by a challenging boss at the end of a stage. This classic formula is executed perfectly in the game by providing you with well controlled, fast-paced, and fluid action that is done flawlessly and is sure to absorb your full attention. As you get farther into the game however, they stage layout starts to jump all over the place having you looking around previous areas to extend the story.

You will fight through a host of bad robots and humans by using an large range of moves and attacks. You control Astro Boy's movement with the control pad while using the A button to jump, the B button for attacks, the L button for a special attack that will attack all enemies on screen, the R button for the most powerful special attack that fires an enormous laser, and by pressing a direction and both the A and B buttons at the same time you can perform an attack dash. If you double tap the control pad in a direction you can use a dash where you will be temporarily invulnerable, if you tap up on up on the control pad and B at the same time you can use a thin laser beam from Astro Boys fingers called the finger laser. as you fight using your regular attacks your special bar increases enabling you to use very powerful special moves. Probably what makes Omega Factor stand out though is how Astro Boy can practically fly; by jumping in the air and then pressing the the A button and a direction on the control pad you can use Astro Boy's jets which enable you to essentially go pretty much wherever. During some levels though the game switches over to standard 2D flight shooting. The action is well complimented by nice graphics and character designs that help to give the game the right feel, as well as implementing music that is always appropriate for the situation and an overall excellent variety of sound effects

There is also a well designed story where on your adventures you will meet many characters from the Astro Boy universe(and some from related animes) all of whom are important for story and leveling up your character giving his more power and making his abilities more useful. If you're a fan of Astro Boy you will absolutely love this game and even if you aren't you might just become one after playing this a great game. A definite buy for anyone who has any interest in 2D action games.
