A nice diversion while you wait for Legend of Dragon VIII or Final Fantasy XII

Let me say right off the bat that Atlier Iris: Eternal Mana is hardly a groundbreaking game. The alchemy system, while different, isn't that great a step up from a regular magic system. The story is just above par. The graphics are on the cutesy side. There's an odd bug where the game won't remember that you want the voice-overs in Japanese (which trust me, you do, because the English voices are grating) and they needlessly buried the party formation command.

That being said, if you give this game a few hours it does have a charm to it that grows on you. There are some amusing moments, and some likeable characters. The rapport you build with the characters who you can synthesize items is nice and a way to flesh out some of the characters.

This is definitely a lightweight game, and while isn't as good as some of the other rpg series out there (like Shadow Hearts), it's a fun diversion to keep you occupied while you wait for Legend of Dragon VIII or Final Fantasy XII
