If you describe the features, the game sounds great. But the experience is lehhh.

I will admit that I haven't spent much time playing this game yet (though I spent enough time waiting to get into it). So consider this review a first impression analysis. First impressions of games are very important to me, because frankly I don't want to invest much time in something that isn't pleasing me just in case it will eventually be good.

Atlantica has a lot if features that sound real nice on paper. It's like reading a house description with all these nice rooms and ammenitites, then finding out it's mediocre.

For example, you can hire mercenaries. That's right, you don't fight alone, you fight in groups! This is a great idea. Unfortunately, I find the mercenaries just make you spend time clicking and clicking when it would be better to have one decent character. I never felt any of my party members (including my character) were really much good on their own.

This also leads me to the next piece of fool's gold. The game has a turn based combat system. A nice break from regular MMO grinds, right? Wrong! I think most people will accept by now that all MMOs have grind, so I won't hold that against Atlantica. But this turn based combat system could have been a nice distraction, if it wasn't so irritating. You only get a short time to make your move. I found I usually ended up just sending each of my mercenaries to attack a random enemy.

Finally, there is voice acting! That's right! Voice acting can really boost a game's quality, and make it feel more alive. Too bad the voice actors in this game sound like reject dub actors. Nothing makes a mercenary less badass than an annoying and completely fake giggle. Would have been better left to our imaginations.

Since this is a noob's review, let me get to the tutorial. It's a joke. So it shows you a few basic interface.. things. But when you get into combat, clearly the part of the game needing the most explanation, it's a joke. A big window is taking up the screen, telling you what to do, while the timer starts ticking in the background and you are already being attacked.

This wouldn't be so bad, but on to my next point. The interface sucks. It feels like an operating system from the 80's. Not much organization or thought went into the layout. The creators of this game don't know what intuitive means.

All in all, I didn't like Atlantica. I will say it again, I haven't played it a lot and in this review I am not pointing out the good things about the game. All I can say is, I don't feel like playing it again.
