A completely different game from The Last Airbender, and no where near as good.
You can play as Toph and Zuko; Combo moves make combat a little more interesting; Focus moves are fun to pull off.
The Bad:
Storyline is a comical rendition of Book 2; Voice acting and script are no where near as as the show; RPG-style gameplay has been traded for shallow, level-based gameplay; Very short; No more power trees; Jet and Momo characters are just plain ridiculous; Lousy animation.
--------------------------------------------------------
Avatar:The Last Airbender was a game with a lot of potential, but came up a bit short. Rather than build upon the potential of the first game, the designers decided to completely change the gameplay from the RPG-style experience of the first game, to something level-based like Tak 2, with some platforming thrown in. The result is only a little fun for a short time, and only to hard-core fans of the series.
First is the combat. Gone are the power trees in the first game. Instead, you have a melee attack, a ranged attack, six different combos, and a "special move" which can only be used if have Bending Scrolls, which are scattered throughout each level. You can also use Focus moves in combat now, which is done by standing on the characters symbol, holding the Y button, and then moving the Thumbstick in the direction of your target.
Though Focus Moves and Combos certaintly help to spice up the combat, you can no longer use any of the charcters more unique powers, such as Earth Walls, Tidal Waves, and Tornadoes, all of which can only be found in the first game. The lack of a wider variety of Bending and Warrior moves leaves combat feeling a bit lackluster, and all the characters feel the same.
There are also flying levels, which allow you play as a cartoony, stumpy-tailed Appa, while either Aang, Katara, or Momo shooting enemies from his saddle. This isn't a whole lot of fun, and there are only two of these levels in the campaign. There is also a bonus level for the Day Of Black Sun, which can only be unlocked if you have the previous game and have completed all areas to 100 percent.
As I have mentioned, the game is now level-based. No longer can you freely explore each area, completing side-quests, twarting enemies, and finding hidden treasures. Instead you follow linear missions: Complete each objective that is given too you, which may involve collecting items, running errands, hunting down enemies, or performing Focus Moves. You'll frequently switch characters, and you can only control two characters at a time. They can either be controled by a single player, or by two players in Co-op.
You have several new characters to chose from. Toph has replaced Haru from the first game. Zuko and Iroh are now playable, but the are only featured in one of the campaign missions. These new character are fun to play as for Avatar fans. You also have Jet and Momo, which are just plain ridiculous. Jet's swordfighting doesn't look right. Momo can now fight enemies several times his size by throwing fruit at them. Also, you have only eight characters to choose from in the arena mode. Additional characters such as Azula, Mai, Ty-Lee, and Long Feng are not playable.
The story is atrocious. The Last Airbender had an original storyline, taking place between Books 1 and 2, and was very much like the actual show. Glimpses of Aang and Katara's close relationship, Sokka's sarcastic, bone-headed remarks, and Zuko's single-minded, and unsuccessful pursuit of Aang make the first game feel more like a classic Avatar adventure, which is great for fans of the first season.
The Burning Earth is merely a short comical rendition of Book 2: Earth, with seven altered chapters for the second season. Characters are OOC, and the actors and script are pathetic in comparrison to the show. Not to mention some bad in-game cut scenes, with characters who look about blissfully, not even focusing on the people they're speaking to, while talking through mouths that don't even move.
Overall, if you're an Avatar fan looking to play as your favorite characters and wield the elements, then you're better off with first game. The Burning Earth will not satisfy the Avatard within for long.
