Great game play, awesome story like all avernum games but graphics still unacceptably poor

User Rating: 8 | Avernum 4 PC
The Avernum series continues the tradition of Avernum games with great stories and game play, albeit not very impressive graphics.

Spiderweb hasn't got the message of the fans who wanted better graphics implemented in the games. The outdated graphics take some of the fun away from the game especially for people that aren't into RPG's.

The world of Avernum continues to be vast and allows the players to visit dozens of the major towns and villages, the game is not quite free roaming though as it is restricted to some degree by the plot. The average user should get several days play from the game.

The scenery varies in this case as the main character is underground in Avernum this time, unlike Avernum 3 where the entire game was above ground. Music is fairly standard and nothing to write home about.

The spells and items are nearly the same as all previous Avernum games, but the interface has changed completely with the Geneforge engine being adopted allowing click and move which wasn't available earlier.

On the whole this is a game with a highly immersive storyline that will keep you entertained for hours. It shouldn't be judged purely from the graphics. Recommended to the type of players that rank content over other things.
