Tell me about a good game based on a comic hero and I shall show you Batman: Arkham Asylum
The story is awesome! I though that fighting your way through a asylum would be boring or at last a short visit, but I was surprised how they made the storyline so you can spend lots of time having fun and exploring the environment. Even if you don´t meet all the most famous criminals from the Batman´s series, you will find it pleasant to know that many of them are somehow into the game like the Umbrellas from Penguin, the mask from catwoman or even a fancy room for Calendar Man, from whom I never heard about. The storyline is somewhat short, but the extras will overcompensate and make the sum something awesome and fun to play. I wont describe more than this for the spoils.
The visual is great! No "body armor nipples" to start of. The Batman outfit is simply fantastic and it will suffer from the adventure into Arkham and therefore look even cooler! Joker is nice and thigh, with some funny punchlines, if you are a sociopath or not, alas! What would be of a hero without a decent enemy and sure this Joker is a bless! And comes with Harley, fake traps and sadism to pepper! The ladies are great also although you will find only a few into the game, but they are stunning, even the well dressed doctor has her charm!
The environments are great, even with "detective mode" turned on. But you´lll be glad if you try to play a little with it turned off.
Game play is something else. The battle are well developed, some poor collisions, but nothing that bad or that will affect greatly on your experience. Usually it flows naturally, even better if you guide yourself with that "spider sense" Batman seems to had developed. Some exploring and Riddle´s riddles will make it not look like a totally beat them up title and I was sure pleased to see it.
Soundtrack is the best you could get. Usually you will have the environment sounds and sometimes Joker or others through the speakers! Even the prisoners have their lot of punchlines which change according with their feelings! Nothing better than watch a criminal scare to death of you!
Summing it all, Batman:Arkham Asylum was the best experience into games I had on the last half of the year. Complete, fun an exciting! A must have!
