The Genesis and Mega CD are better, but this is alright.
As with many iterations, this has different levels and some features are cut (namely the car sections). But it's still fun little game.
Batman Returns on the Master System has some nice platforming, your Batman hook thingy, makes it feel more like you're playing Spiderman. All levels usually have 5-6 layers and exploration is rewarded by collection little bat icons which yield life.
Unfortunately the game is so easy, with so many life's to pick up, unlike many similar hard as nails titles, this becomes a cake walk. I'm generally terrible at these kinds of games but by the end was running around with 31 life's.
Though it borrows visuals from Tim Burtons movies Danny Elfmans memorable soundtrack is non existent, with a forgettable set of melody's standing in.
It has 4-5 boss fights, two essenailly repeated. These are simple enough and fair. Follow a set of patterns, rinse and repeat.
As far as movie licensed games go, much worse exists. It might be an old game for old Batman series, but it's still better than a lot of the later games.
