Short review of a marvellous multiplayer game...
First off I'd like to point out that the PS3 version of the game does not have the same problems with matchmaking described by the XBOX 360 users. Joining games is a breeze and happens quite swiftly.
There are some issues with voice chat, since I tried to communicate unsuccessfully with the players on my squad, I heard a lot of chirping sounds through my headset and occasional sounds, which were impossible to understand. I will try it with a couple of friends later on. This although surprising wasn't a huge one for me, since I had already played Battlefield: Bad Company for a never ending time period without any sort of communication.
There are three classes you can pick, rifleman (with long range semi automatic rifle, which can be used as a ww II grenade launcher, and hand grenades), infantry (with short - mid range automatic rifle, recoilles bazooka, hand grenades and wrench to repair vehicles and smash into enemies) and scout (with sniper rifle, automatic hand gun and dynamite with remote control). The classes are the same on both the US and Japanese side and feel quite balanced. The weapons used are not modern weapons so if you are shooting from far away it takes time for the bullets to travel, so you need to lead in.
The vehicles you can use are single propeller planes, tanks, jeeps and assault boat. The control of the vehicles are quite sharp. If you are used to playing flight sims, you might want to invert the controls of the plane from start on, which did help in my case. You can control the turret in the tanks with the ability to use the cannon and the machine gun simultaneously from the driver seat, which is an addition we did not have on Battlefield: Bad Company.
There are AA (anti aircraft) guns at strategic points on the maps and the air raid option, which becomes available as soıon as your team captures the airfield on the map, is a good option, with which you can carpet bomb an area on the map. Apart from these there are heavy machine guns nested in bunkers, watch towers, which you can use to your advantage.
The only let down of the game is that there are only three maps so far. Do not get me wrong, they are prepared in a very good fashion and for the money you are spending (~ 15 USD) they do the trick. I just wish that they will release more in the near future.
The game isn't a very tactical one, since your health and secondary ammo (grenades, dynamites, bazooka shots) replenish over time by themselves. It feels more like an arcade game, which is accessible to a broad spectrum of gamers. Nevertheless, this game is blast to play. It is a very good online first person arcade shooter and at this value it's definitely a steal. ıf you are into fps games and have a few bucks to spend, buy it and get into the battle.
