Battlefield 1943 Review by ig003

User Rating: 8 | Battlefield 1943 PS3
Battlefield 1943 is a World War Two based first person shooter. It is unique in that it is one of the most highly graphical and complex games to date, that is built solely for the PSN market. The game is online only, meaning if you don't have an internet connection, this is about as smart as buying a mouse if you haven't got a computer.
As I mentioned before, this is a World War Two based shooter, and is set in the pacific, with the Americans battling the Japanese on 4 different pacific islands. There is no story to the game, it is just a straight out multiplayer brawl across the four maps. There is only one game mode, which is a control point's type layout. For anyone who has played any of the Star Wars Battlefront game, this will make perfect sense as soon as you play, but basically there are several points on the map that each team fight to capture. Each team has a reinforcement's gauge, which depletes as control points are lost and players die. The less control points your team controls, the quicker it will deplete. There is one unique game type, called Air Superiority, which is centred on aerial combat. It is the same as the above mode but there are no control points, you deplete the reinforcements bar by killing other players.
There are three classes in the game to choose from, Rifleman, Infantry and Scout. There are the traditional classes, the Rifleman has a accurate rifle, the Infantry is the grunt with the machine gun and the scout is the sniper. Each class has a different melee and side arm and the Infantry has a repair ability. The game gives players the option to use a variety of vehicles such as tanks, jeeps and planes. Vehicles such as the plane are very hard to master however, and will take a lot of practise. Vehicles can be used in both first person and third person, but on foot fighting it purely first person. The graphics of the game are very good for a PSN title, and are solid with very little lag that I have experienced. The only problem I have encountered is that my PS3 crashed once while playing the game.
The game supports voice chat, although it is not very well executed and has little refinement. There are trophies available.
This is a very good game for the price, and only 10GBP (£10) in England, and is a bargain for what you get. A very good solid game, that will keep you entertained for a very long while.
