Simply the best: better then all the rest.

User Rating: 9.8 | Battlefield 2: Deluxe Edition PC
Battlefield 2: Deluxe Edition is a collection of both the original Battlefield 2 game, along with the BF2 expansion pack: Special Forces. Now that Battlefield 2 has put some years under it's belt, EA has released both the games bundled in a convenient package looking for those looking to jump into the action. Battlefield 2 is a first person online shooter. The basic idea is to pick one of the battling sides, and beat the other team in objectives. These include killing one another, capturing strategic positions and blowing up strategic objects. The game operates on a "ticket" system. A death of a soldier on your side of the battle counts as losing one ticket. Capturing enough strategic points also slowly depletes the opposing side's tickets. A side can also win when they have killed all the enemy soldiers and there are no spawn points left for that army on the map. All the controls in the game can be set by custom button mapping. You can walk, sprint, dive, crouch, and use mounted weapons and vehicles. All armies also have their soldiers split into different kits, such as special forces, medic, and sniper. Each kit has their own abilities and unique stats, as well as unique weapons and equipment. These abilities include being able to heal team members, being able to diffuse land mines, or being able to repair vehicles and strategic objects. An individual unlocking system allows players to unlock more weapons for individual kits as they progress in rank throughout the game. A player can increase his/her rank by gaining points through gameplay elements such as killing an enemy, or healing a team member. Players can choose to work alone, or join a squad and work as a team. One player on both sides can apply to the be team commander. If an army is not happy with the commander's performance, they can initiate a cote for mutiny. If enough votes are cast, the position is taken away from the commander.

While Battlefield 2 is primarily an online game, you can also play offline through a network. The gameplay functions in the same way. There are also AI enemies you can practice your skill against, though the intelligence of these AI soldiers seem quite limited and scripted. Unlockable weapons are not allowed for use in offline gameplay.

Special Forces is the expansion pack to Battlefield 2. The pack adds more maps, weapons, and armies for players to use. The gameplay works in exactly the same way, though many kits have been equipped with additional equipment. Deluxe Edition offers great value for any gamer's money. It include a great game, and a great expansion pack. This is a prime example of an excellent game. The game has it's flaws: occasional online glitches and a buggy voice communications system, but this is a rare jem in the world of PC shooters.
