User Rating: 8.5 | Battlefield 2: Modern Combat PS2
The games single player adds hotswapping to the game a feature where by pressing square you will the soldiers body you're currently in and go off into another ally. This a cool new feature but like the game is glitched and bugged as when hotswapping your previous soldier will drop dead for no reason sometimes. The story line follows two sides and lesser third as they wage war against each other. You will receive briefings on the level as both sides will pound you with pity and they're brutality.

The single player campaign feels like an arcade game as you'll get things like Medium Armour or Fast Reload temporarily but rarely do you notice it. The missions are highly varied that will use the five kits, Assault, Special Ops, Sniper, Engineer and Support they each have five various weapons (Ones always a pistol). The single player AI both enemy and friendly is more helpful than a fair few of the current PS2 titles AI but is still dumb like there will be in many of the levels be a seemingly endless amount of them. The AI will spawn out of nowhere and parachute out of nowhere as well as the fact that it is not at all like the original Battlefield 2 (PC) except one or two things.

There is however is a fairly big arsenal of weapons such as laser designators, mortar strikes and grenade launchers. There are a few sides as well which are the EU (Europe), MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition; multiplayer only), USA (No explanations here) and the PLA (China).

There is a Challenge mode for single player that test your skill at hotswapping, handling various vehicles and accuracy with certain weapons. This as well as campaign has a star system where the more points you get the more closer you are to achieving a star.

The star systems work where by hotswapping heaps, quick playing, getting loads of points and minimalistic losses will get you stars. The stars are used to get a higher ranks, meeting medal criteria's and blowing up bonus tasks also build up to higher ranking.

The vehicles in the game are also a wide range too including humvees, one type of boat, several helicopters (Hinds), LAVs (Light Armoured Vehicles), MAVs (Medium Armoured Vehicles) and HAVs (Heavy Armoured Vehicles).

The multiplayer is said by many to be great and completely different from the single player but don't be fooled. There are people who will want to wreck everyone's fun and the kicking system kicks in too late. This usually stuffs up the game for most but there are also times when you go onto game sessions and are kicked by the participants for no reason at all.

There are only two game modes Conquest for all PC Battlefield 2 fans which is a mode where two teams will try to capture as many flags as possible (Something like 6 flags) and these double as spawn points. Whichever team has least flags captured will lose tickets until game time runs out or you lose all your tickets. Then there's Capture the Flag where there are two teams trying to capture the others flag and take it back to base, the team with most flag captures wins.

The ranking system works where to get a higher rank a certain amount of PPH (Points Per Hour), medals (don't need ribbons they're there for collecting) and score (kill loads, capture flags and blow vehicles.)

The bottom line is if you enjoy the fact that Battlefield has come to consoles or you look at its downside. There is a fair bit of greatness about it pity a sequel of the hotswapping isn't coming any time soon. Also check out the credits to in single player to see how many people put effort into the game.
