What Battlefield 3 did to the Battlefield series were the following:
1. A social network
Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, graphics are amazing, the action is intense and this is just what a Battlefield game should be. But is it Battlefield 3?
From the track history of the series, when you slap a number to the Battlefield name, you are expect to be revolutionary in what you bring to the genre. Instead, they took away commander mode and really added nothing new to the multiplayer experience. The whole Battlelog improves the social and tracking aspect, but when you are actually in the game, it's really not better than Battlefield 2. Think about it for a long time.
