Great graphics, good game, just not for me.

BF3 is a good looking game with a sense of style that's hard to match. The camera work is good and the quality of the graphics is hard to challenge in any other game. Enemies are careful and difficult to spot, as you might expect in a real war - something that is bewildering at first, but makes you think before you put a foot forward in future missions.

The gameplay is fast paced and works well to put you in the place of a soldier in exceptionally dangerous scenarios.

But I'm trying to be objective - while this is a good game, I don't like it. BF3 was my first step into the modern military shooter genre - neither its predecessors or Call of Duty has been something that I really felt strongly about either way.

The quick time events frequently break the flow of the game and, when urged to perform a stealthy kill on an unaware sentry, there's absolutely no advantage gained over just shooting the guy in the head. Defending enemies often seem to have near infinite reinforcements in certain places if the game does not intend you to break through them.

Origin and BF3's own interface just add more levels of hassle to loading up a game, one or the other would have been fine, but with the fairly lengthly load times, it feels badly cobbled together.

I'm unwilling to penalise the game just because this style of FPS is not for me. I see its strengths, but it does not engage me.
