A wonderful multiplayer game that's sure to hook you in.

As I type this, the addictiveness of Bad Company 2 has spread like wildfire among my college campus neighbors. Currently playing the game on my PS3 is one of my friend's friends who happens to be a hardcore PC gamer but even he has picked this up and been playing it nonstop. He's also a rocket whore. In what should give Infinity Ward a bit of healthy competition, DICE has provided an entertaining and thorough multiplayer shooter.

Why is this friend's friend a rocket whore? Instead of noob-tubing enemies, he's spent his entire run sniping/pegging people with rounds as large as a man's face, taking out vehicles and whenever he runs out, there's either a friend or a dead assault class ally laying close by allowing him to switch kits, pick up the assault kit and spit out an ammo box and use it for himself. This game is action-packed, full of beautiful audio and scenery to match.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 provides matches on it's dedicated servers and relatively lag-free gameplay. (At least in my experience, I've only come across a few times in which lag has presented a problem but this is easily forgivable.) I've had the opportunity to play both the beta and the final version of this game and it has changed in positive ways. Levels have garnered more detail, matches are full of players waiting to plug a few bullets in your skull and nothing is more satisfying then a knife in the back. This is the only strange thing I've come across in the game. Knifing. Knifing is nothing more then a push of a button, but there's a slight delay from the push of the button to the animation on screen. However, it makes knifing that much more satisfying and for the most part, a quick blade to the neck doesn't happen when the enemy is aware. Such is the art of stealth knifing.

As mentioned before, Bad Company 2 should give Infinity Ward a run for it's money. While not necessarily outselling Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2 is bound to steal more than a few players. So what makes Bad Company 2 different? Larger maps, more class focused players and obviously the destructibility of the environments. Honestly, I think the games shouldn't be directly compared because of their play mechanics. Call of Duty has more of a run-&-gun style of gameplay and Battlefield's style is a tad slower. Mostly this is due to the large maps and depends on the classes you play. The game can feel like a fast paced version of Halo and sometimes like the original Ghost Recon series in which snipers and some players will advanced slowly, but steadily to their next objective. It's multiplayer is definitely a treat for those who pick up and play. There are weapon unlocks to be found, and classes can be changed quickly and efficiently. For everyone who at least owns a PS3, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a game that shouldn't be missed.

The campaign is solid and short with a few moments of interspersed humored dialog. It feels as if it's trying to be epic and some parts could very well be, but just barely misses the mark. The game is not to be bought for its campaign, but if you have the internet, pick up Bad Company 2. You owe it to yourself.
